i have to agree with a lot of sleazy's analysis on the previous page. in the same breath though, i think it was often the middle-class suburban kids who could and did stick with skating longest, because the other dudes had to get full-time jobs, knocked up their girls, got into drinking and drugs too much... theres a lot more sam devlins out there than there are rick mccranks... its pretty much impossible to trascend class is this society.
anyway, i worked for the canucks (and grizzlies) for 13 years and my enthusiasm for sports waxes and wanes. some years i wouldnt watch a second of hockey on tv, but would see dozens of games live. this past year, i watched every canucks game i could on tv and listened over the internet too. ill clap when the home team scores, but ill also say 'nice save' or 'nice goal' when the other team does well. i mainly want to see a good game, even if the home team loses. god knows ive seen a lot of real snoozers...
that said, its always pretty hard to escape the homoerotic, overly competitive (ie: liberal), macho, ignoramus, hyper-commercialized, no-class mentality that pervades most professional team sports today. fucking hate that shit so bad...
