Metallica just recently played one of their new songs off of death magnetic at an ozzfest stop

I like the song so far, and im really hoping they pull through with this album and it doesnt turn out to be another st. anger

Metallica will be a collectively old and worn out (more so) group touring around playing "Enter Sandman" when they're 70 to crowds of 50.

The worst thing about Metallica is that they know how to rock, they just refuse to. It's not like they've always been terrible, they used to be great. What will it take for Hetfield & Dem to get back on track?

actually, i just listened too that track again and it got me kind of hyped to see what they come up with on this new album. definitely going for an OG 80s metallica vibe.

I heard a new Metallica song on the radio today and it was pretty weak. The song had no musical dynamics and they just threw in some random time changes that really made no sense. I'm not even interested in grandpatallica's new album now.

Metallica are one of the most, if not THE most influential metal band, they've made their mark and they should have left it that years ago. With all this shit they've put out since the Black Album, including that embarrassing documentary, I don't see how they could come up with something worth their name again. These couple of new tracks don't convince me otherwise, Cyanide was just just plain horrible. I feel that all they do is drag their legacy down. Metal has moved on since their heyday and they should just admit it.

Just the other day, I thought I'd get old Metallica albums from itunes, I've only had them on tapes / vinyl before. What do you know, their old albums were some of the most expensive albums on there. What the fuck, you don't get my money, like you fucking need it.

there old albums were really fucking good though. probably the metal ablums i revist more than any other.

what newer metal bands are you guys checking out?

i've been listening to Havey Milk and the Sword lately but i doubt i'll revist them in 20 years.

I've been feeling quite a bit of thrash lately; Municipal Waste, Violator etc. As for death / thrash, I suggest you check out Hatesphere from Denmark. Also, I recently re-discovered Demolition Hammer and namely their Epidemic of Violence -album. That's from 92 or 93 but still fresh as fuck.

And of course the Scandinavian classics, The Entombed, Dismember, At The Gates.

Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are pretty fucking good albums, have you even listened to either of them in their entirety?
Try them.

But this new Metallica shit is pretty bad.
The Black Album was the last thing they put out that was any good, and even that took a while to get used to but since then nothing worthwhile.

The new Testament (semi-original lineup) is decent
Every now and again I revisit At the Gates and most of the Nineties Death albums (symbolic, individual thought patterns, and human), those are pretty essential
Dream Theater--not really metal, but pretty epic
Opeth--holy crap Opeth is some fucking epic shit

It's hard to keep up with that shit, it definitely requires effort to keep up with music

I saw Testament play last night and I was suprised at how good they were. I would advise anybody who likes thrash/speed metal to go see them.
