So "Paramount wins" seems to be a headline today

Would anyone please care to explain it in layman's terms?  Like, how will it affect the dozen of us on this thread

Thank you so much

It’s the worst possible decision, but I have hopes for a block in th state.   Taking Fox/Disney merger as a template - they said the merger meant they would still put out the same amount of movies the separate entities would but that proved to be inaccurate.   Paramount has made similar promises that they will put out 30 movies a year, but realistically Paramunt will consume WB, thousands get axed for redundancy and creatives have one fewer buyer for their work

I had much more faith in Netflix keeping WB around as a separate entity with the same business plan

The Bride is an interesting one.   It def feels like the work of a new director because it’s brimming with ideas that don’t all necessarily work or pay off and a lot of movie references (particularly Young Frankenstein I have to assume).  I don’t think everyone will view it as generously as I do, but I had a lot more fun viewing this than I did Del Toro’s Frankenstein which I thought was kind of a slog to get through

Sincere question: do the studios think there is public demand to see more Frankenstein movies?

There was a time a few years ago it seemed like everyone was trying to do a fucking Pinocchio movie.   Thankfully only happened and Guillermo did a really interesting version of it.

The Bride aspect hasn’t been tapped into that much.   Universal wanted to do tht shit with Angelina Jolie back when they were trying to do a Monster Cinematic Universe.   I think the concept of telling it like Bonnie and Clyde/Natural Born Killers is interesting and it landed Christian Bale and the soon to be best actress winner.

I could give less of a shit about Frankenstein (though apparently Mel Brooks is developing a Younger Frankenstein).   Like Dracula and Jane Austen, that story’s been told enough and if I want to see something that deals with the same themes, I’d watch Blade Runner

Unkind review of Undertone, but maybe people liked those old A24 horror movies.   Was suckering by my A-list and a Dolby theater for a sound-based movie

yeah i didn't really care for undertone much. somewhat creepy atmospherically, but like dark nursery rhymes/backmasking hidden messages shit is so cliche and trite, i'm surprised they really went with that.

Saw undertone. My wife and I both fell asleep at different points. It was interesting what they were trying to do. I just found it really boring. The sound design was like a big emphasis, and it was like a horror house kind of vibe. Just for me the plot was really slow and uninteresting.

Just returned from Hail Mary, so many interesting ideas to think about regarding space travel, sacrifice, bravery, communication... it's a feel good.
I'm amazed at the realism of the space craft.

tell us how you really feel. i just seen a preview for this for the first time tonight. i don’t really know that whole story, but from what i have heard to be confirmed as true, there should not be a movie glamorizing that dude.

They had to spend $15m to change the ending because they set up an accuser as a bad guy at the end of the movie.   They had to refilm the ending because  as part of their settlement with the victim was that they were never to be dramatized in any MJ life story which MJs estate I guess conveniently forgot about and then were put on the hook to spend the money to reshoot it.

I suppose everything is so murky around the trial and the victims that it’s hard to get a sense of what’s true and what isn’t but I’m choosing to believe the victims and after hearing the gnarly accounts given in that one doc and hearing how much further beyond it went than having sleepovers with little boys bc MJ was apparently the only kid who had a rough childhood with an overbearing father.

thanks for the context of the reshoot. bizarre. aslo, sleep over with kids, regardless of any more info, is enough for me to be in the “fuck that guy” side.

The studio didn’t know about the settlement so the estate of MJ had to cough up the money to reshoot it because it was their responsibility to flag it

Michael was interesting to see in person.
Full theater for an early screening and everybody was vibing to the music/performances.
Whoever played Michael's dad crushed it. Looks like he plays an AA guy on Euphoria.
I imagine it's going to make a ton of money when it releases.
