Wassup guys, right now I am working on a project for an english course I am in. This project has me doing research on a certain "discourse" community that I am interested in and then conducting an interview with a member of that community. I mostly just doom scroll through here and read what everyone else has to say, but I really want to hear about what makes SLAP home for so many of you. Such a deep, deep repository of skate knowledge on here. Gear, trick tips, industry insider stuff, video parts… I’ve even discovered new music I like.

In a world where it seems like everyone is selling something, it seems like people are mostly here for the love.

It’s shocking to me that there’s a whole gear exchange section with no fees and very little mediation, and that it mostly works.

It’s…gritty. Some of us are way too ready to flame each other over petty shit. Some Many of us are way too proud of how real abrasive we are. But it’s like skating a ditch in that way. It’s supposed to be gritty. Gritty is the point.

It’s easy to get an answer about deck info on kicks, concave, and axle width, aside from info on other parts, when that information isn’t available online. Most of the shit I get is custom ordered by my local or bought from other shops when my local doesn’t have accounts for certain companies. I would have resold a lot of shit and lost a lot of money if it wasn’t for people on here.

Lots of kindred spirits on here. There’s a thread on axeled trucks and worn out boards that I love to look at. My friends growing up thought I was a weirdo to like that shit but I’m not the only one haha.
Also the stylin on you threads are hilarious. People on here have great senses of humor.

I'm 27 and recently made my account after surfing through the message boards for a grip. I love seeing how nuanced particular quirks and takes illustrates the esoteric like manner that skateboarding and skateboarders operate in, in varying degrees.
