Kadri put on a clinic last night.
Thank god for him otherwise they would have lost, easily. Their defense is a fucking circus and Liles is still being benched for no reason when you got Kostka and Gunnarsson all over the place doing nothing.
Mike Kostka fits into a group of players that includes Nik Antropov, Mikhail Renberg, Alexei Ponikarovsky, Dmitri Kristich, and others. Players the fan base loathes, and who have not earned spots on the team. Players who are forced on us because management feels like it, and because they can do it. They scream "we know you want a rebuild, but here's Kostka instead." They throw these players in our faces and hype them up so those among the fan base who do not truly understand hockey label them the answer. Players who are not good enough to make us win, but not quite bad enough to let us bottom out completely. They are the perpetual mediocrity squad. Mike Kostka is just the latest, but he will not be the last. This is not a player that went undrafted and then tore up the NCAA, AHL, or SEL. This is not a player that was drafted high in the first round then had a tragic Berard-esque accident and has just begun the process of getting back into the game after a lengthy rehabilitation. This is not a player that was a highly sought after free agent that chose Toronto as a place to try to win a cup. This is not a player that has done anything to demonstrate that he deserves to be the #2 D-man or even in the top four of the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. Let's be clear here, TML is LITERALLY a billion dollar organization. Say you are the CEO of a billion dollar company. You have the cash on hand to hire the best possible man for any position you want within your organization. Would you take a guy out of night-school to run one of your flagship locations? No. That's what Mike Kostka is.
Living near Toronto and being a Leafs fan, it's annoying to hear how the Leafs are so much improved when they aren't at all. (same amount of points in the same amount of games as last year) and they're defensively solid they are. They have the same amount of points in the same amount of games as last year, and they are giving up as many, if not more shots than last year. Also annoying to hear everyone pump Kostka's tires when he hasn't been good since the first three games of the season.
