Old phased out names/tricks.

Chink Chink grinds
Mayday grinds
Happy/Sad plants
Sean Penns

But one that a friend of mine was talking about was "Rocking Horse" grinds. Nosegrind to 5-0 on vert. I cou;dn't imagine anyone doing this trick seriously anyhow. I've never heard about it, maybe it's too gay to even talk about but I'm bored so whatever.

The correct name for a suski grind is 'sidewinder', but everyone seemed to forget that after 2000.

What's the old name for fs 50-50 to fakie on transition, is it sudden death, certain death or something?

I remember when Tony Hawk first did pivot fakies they called it by some other weird name - a "mayday" or something like that... anyone?

Haha one of my friends still calls pivots Maydays!

There are a few classic ones which make me think think of Mouly... like 'Bag Ladies' (ollie over like a lipslide to willy grind on other side of rail) or 'Sausage Grinds' (Crooks or Nosegrinds while grabbing melon or tail). I swear the staff at Skateboard! and R.A.D used to just get hammered and make this shit up to see if it would catch on!

I remember Sidewalk went through a phase of calling 360 flips 'Sawblades' for some bizarre reason too. Glad that one didn't catch on.

I read somewhere that the French call bigspins 'tourbillons' (which translates as 'whirlpool'), thought that was pretty cool...

R.A.D! My favorite skate mag of all time (well, early Big Brother as well)

I'm sure you'll also remember how they used to call an axle stall to fakie a 'certain death'. And melons they would call 'melanchollies'.

Yup, pretty sure 'Melanchollie' came from them being called 'Sad' grabs as well.... so Sad > Melanchollie > Melon

Though were 'Lien airs' another name for a Melon or where they different somehow? Always confused me when I saw saw that under photos of what I thought was a Melon...

Oh and somebody please fucking explain to me what the hell a 'Pointer' grind was. Just another name for crooks?

Yep, it's certain death. But you have to come back in with your back truck, like a pivot to fakie or Mayday if you will. I think those are such cool trick names; I'll take Mayday over pivot to fakie anyday.

And I'd say chink chink is still just that on a mini ramp.

No dude, those are called liens, but they are kind of bullshit liens. A proper lien is a backside grab done while going frontside, or a frontside melon. Its like how an indy is only if it is done backside, a lien is just a melon done frontside. I'm pretty sure the nosegrab looking one just has to do with the fact that if you suck at vert like I do, you end up grabbing backside airs towards the nose until you can do it properly, I'm assuming the whole lien to tail where you grab the nose started like that.
