Anyone got any traditional hand poke tattoos?
I've got a decent amount of tattoos but am finding my pain threshold waning as I get older.

Found a dude that does them (he actually just designed the new Fast Times Shop shirts) and pretty keen, wanted to get some info regarding pain, timeframes etc.
Looking at filling in a few spots on the arm but eventually wanna get something on the old noggin.

I got a traditional one in Japan. He came recommended from a friend and could do what I wanted. I layed down on a futon in his apartment and he just sat beside me and worked. The outline of the tat was done by gun, and I’d forgotten how painful it was, I was almost ready to tap out.

But when he did the fill he switched to the traditional technique, using needles attacked to a stick like a paintbrush. It was fine, I could have read a book while he did it. The tattooist also says hand poke is better for the skin and it heals better.

nice, how big is your piece? Always wanted some tebori traditional style work but one of the disadvantages of living in rural japan is that you don’t have many options in terms of good artists. My other issue is finding someone that can do traditional hand poked tattoos AND is a good artist, but then I’d probably have to commute which just makes it too expensive for larger pieces ...

Not too big, about 2 fists. Crass symbol in Japanese clouds with a lotus, haha.

I have norse runes scattered all over my body, and want to complete the project with an image of Odin hanging from the world tree, as per the myth of the origin of the runes. I found an image i really like but a friend suggested that it might look too much like a kkk scene.



Thoughts? Is it obvious enough that it's a white person in the shadow of the tree? Appreciate any feedback.

That is a tough call. I think there are a lot of idiots out there that can view it anyway they want. I think it would be a conversation piece for sure. Someone is bound to point it out of you are out shirtless. There is definitely worse tattoos out there but you are the one living with the tattoo and if you aren’t bothered by potential confrontation, I say go for it. At least it will be hidden most of the time.

My first thought on seeing the image was the hanging klansman. Then thinking on it, with runes and all being commonly used symbols of WP types, it might attract additional attention from people you don't want around. I had the Indy cross on me for years but eventually covered it up, in part because I was sick of White Boys Brothering up to me and whatnot.
