new variation on the game of skate
« on: March 03, 2009, 03:26:34 AM »
I really enjoyed the battle of the berrics - it was amazing to watch and has really inspired me to learn some more flatground, somehow it had that extra something the es games of skate lacked. So this is not about replacing that format, just about adding a new variation

For me there was a real variation in styles; some went fast as hell, some slow. Some popped their tricks, others scuffed them. Mainly down to personal pride I guess - and there's something rad about someone scraping a personal nbd to avoid a letter. But surely speed matters - it's easier to land slightly off balance when going slow and tricks look worse

So why not have a variation with a small flat gap to guarantee a minimum speed? Or a low barrier to encourage pop? Sure it would inhibit innovation a little - that's why the original should never be replaced - but it would reward those who do their tricks proper rather than just skiff them. Also it might help more tricks eventually get done down real gaps etc, a better thing for kids to copy rather than risk practically being freestylers (as that is what very slow flatground is similar to)

Just a thought!

even a tiny flat gap would narrow the trick selection quite a bit.

Yeah I know it would narrow the trick selection , and affect timing - I just think there needs to be some way of ensuring peeps are actually rolloingfaster than 1mph when doing tricks - maybe start from a mellowflat bank or something, but that's no less gay!

When I play I don't care about speed.  The only rules that we have different from a reg. game is all wheels must leave the ground.  No slidding shoves.

Half the fun of skate is throwing out sketchy hilarious tricks and arguing about makes or not. At least for me. The whole package is a good time.

How about a variation where you get fed to the lions if you lose?  We can call it Gladiskator?  Sorry... terrible joke.

Or make a dice with six different obstacles like:

1. flat
2. curb
3. rail.
4. stairset.
5. flatgap
6. Who can drink the most
