This is my sister's roommate's band. They're kind of in the vein of Sweet Cobra, Coliseum, etc. Just signed to Relapse.

i don't remember if I wrote this under an old username, but I used to see Sleep a lot. They were so good. We would just get baked and stand there head nodding in a daze while they played 15 minutes long songs. I've seen High on Fire a few times. They were really good, but the last time I saw them they just played songs straight through album length instead of tripping out on one riff like in the past. It was disappointing.

radd, I'm not sure of other dates, but Sleep will for sure be playing @ ATP New York next year.
that shit looks super rad - Sleep playing Holy Mountain, The Stooges playing Raw Power,
and Mudhoney playing Superfuzz Bigmuff and Early Singles, and that's just the first night.
to use a horribly misused term, it will be truly epic.

btw, it will actually only be 2/3 of Sleep, Al and Matt. Apparently the plan right now is to use the drummer from Neurosis.

How sweet would it be to "curate" one of those atp festivals. Get all your favourite now defunct bands to show up and only play their best album.

Do yourself a favor and listen to At the Gates. I like In Flames', Dark Tranquility', and Soilworks' first few albums, but they fucking blow now. Seriously, fuck all that shit. At the Gates.

Really been digging Darkthrone

I was a little into black metal before, but after seeing "Untill the Light Takes Us", I had to check them out.

Pretty sick stuff, almost like shoegaze.

Last year, I went to a strip club for the first time. There was some weird series of events where the manager called my buddies "fags" in the lap dance rooms, gave them free door passes, then sat down at our table and talked to me about Gwar. Anyway, he told me, "Last time I saw them, they played with CRADLE OF FUCKING FILTH, BRO." I told him I hated Cradle of Filth and he got really animated and threw a chair. He paced around upset for a little bit, one of the strippers got involved, then he sat back down and we debated whether Cradle of Filth was actually a good band. We reconciled under the fact that we both liked Darkthrone.

I couldn't get into Darkthrone really, but maybe I'll have to give them another listen to.

I'm inclined to agree with HATE! on this one. Save for maybe four bands, following this track will lead you to nothing but false/whiny wannabe metal. Stcik with the REAL melodic death metal bands and take advice from this thread and you'll get somewhere. But here's my two cents-if a band's name is a complete sentence or phrase (especially one as stupid as "I Killed The Prom Queen" or "We Butter The Bread With Butter" [real band too]), it's generally a good idea to stay away from them. Especially when they look like this:

Now to go back to good bands:

In the second song, I love the guitar part from :41-:48.

the only band on that list that doesnt suck is black sabbath, and they are one of the most overrated bands ever.

I'm not a huge Maiden fan, but I wouldn't say they suck.

Black Sabbath is not and almost could not be overrated.

To be that heavy and fucking ominous, and that groundbreaking, but to still groove and swing the way they did, that can't be overrated. sure they lost the plot at some point, but that's beside the point. What matters is how they totally fucking destroyed and how much great shit they created while they were at their peak.

I can think of very few bands who made 6 records as great and original as the first 6 Sabbath records. Like...none off the top of my head.
they are up there with James Brown and Hank Williams, cats like that.

Although I don't completely hate some of those bands, I suggest you stop going to the mall so much. Do some homework and check out other bands in this thread.  ;)

Why is it that whenever a metal band reaches any sort of mainstream audience the "purists" take umbrage.

Anyways my list is as follows:
Nile
Sabbath
Annotations of an Autopsy
The Boy Will Drown
Suffocation
Thy Art is Murder
Oceano
All Shall Perish
Morbid Angel
Obituary
