Fucking love Leviathan

Cobalt released my favorite black metal album last year.

Gin is an amazing record.

hey HATE!, you seen The Hurt Locker? I know you're a veteran, anyway, if haven't seen it, there's a scene in it where the main character is in Iraq and listening to metal. How much sicker would it have been if the music had been Cobalt?

HATE!, I finally got sick of you mentioning Gaza (just kidding baby), so I remembered to look into them and I like what I heard. If I go to Metal Haven again this weekend, I might just need to see if I can pick up "He Is Never Coming Back."

a couple bands I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Black Witchery, Inquisition - good black metal

Saviours

Iron Claw - anthony shcultz's part in radio television

W.A.S.P.

Melvins - one of my favorites

Trigger Renegade - local band (or used to be before they moved to LA), I guess they changed their name to Professor now too. remind me of early Maiden and Thin Lizzy. good shit. plus they bought me beer.

I saw High on Fire with Saviours a while back. That was rad (except some guy kept leaning on me during High on Fire). I also saw Earthless. That too was rad.

melvins are sick i never really think of them as metal but thats kinda subjective . . .  ive seen earthless too and it was really great. mario c . . . however you spell his last name is a cool guy, im sure id be bros with him if i met him.

edit: one time i saw buzz from melvins shopping at amoeba in hollywood and i was pretty stoked, didnt say anything to him though.

oh yeah, witch was playing at that earthless show too. j. mascis wasn't there, but they had mario drumming which I think more than made up for it. they were having technical difficulties during their last song (seer) so they looped that bass breakdown part or whatever for like 5 minutes with mario doing improvinisational drum fills and shit. mario fucking rips.

Melvins have ruled for so long. I'll admit I'm most partial to Ozma, Gluey Porch Treatments, and especially Bullhead,
but I still check out everything they do, and it's never a waste of time. still amazing live, too.
seeing 'em back in '93 was one of the best shows I've ever witnessed.

He's a really decent guy as well. If you're ever in San Diego, check out his record store Thirsty Moon. They specialize in hard to find vinyl but Mario keeps the metal bin full of rad shit.
From some stupid website:
Quote
Thirsty Moon Records
525 A Evans Place
(Hillcrest, behind Rite Aid, across the street from Record City)
San Diego, 92103
619-542-1500
Thirsty Moon Records specializes in rare, obscure re-issue's (new and used) and carries genres including punk, garage, psychedelic, funk, soul, reggae, krautrock jazz, indie, and rock & roll. The store is independently owned by 3 music fans (two of the owners play in Earthless, and the other (Mario) has played in hordes of punk and indie bands over the last decade including Hot Snakes and Rocket From the Crypt).

what's your complaint with the label?  just curious...
the fact that it's almost impossible to find vinyl from them once it's outta print?

I recently saw Earthless open for Baroness and was blown away by Mario Rubalcaba.  That dude has a regular amount of endurance to play the way he does for that long.

I tried to go to this show in Chicago, but like Kuma's, 21+ ruined it for me. Same night too. One week before I turned 21. Fuck 21+ shows.

The sand in Lars Ulrich's vagina became too much too handle.  After those albums it began to seep out and ruined the band.

Nope, they're one of the worst labels EVER when it comes to mailorder, their customer service is abyssmal, they're snobby ass motherfuckers, and Greg Anderson is a baby.

haven't ordered anything huge from them aside from a couple of t shirts a while back. One of which was on back order for like 3 weeks so I see what you're saying. I meant band wise.

Went to Metal Haven today and picked up:

Anaal Nathrakh-Eschaton
Children of Maani-The Veil of Osiris
Emperor-Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk
Portal-Swarth

I haven't had a chance to listen to any of them (except "Eschaton" because I got it on my iPod a while ago from a friend) but I'm stoked on my haul. I'm really excited about the Children of Maani buy. The band's a Vindsval (from Blut Aus Nord) sideproject and the CD is an original (limited) pressing from 1998 so it's really rare. So glad I decided to flip through the C bands today.

Portal is some crazy shit, pretty sure its in this thread somewhere. Sucks that they are closing that Metal Haven store, I would like to check it out but I dont think I can make it to Chicago until spring.  Oh well, I will just camp out at Kumas Corner. I WANT A NEUROSIS BURGER!

Haha. Let me know when you get here. I'll meet you up at Kuma's if possible. As for Portal-yep, they're in this thread. That's how I found out about them and I saw the album and thought "Eh, why not?". And yeah, I was upset about Metal Haven closing until I talked to Mark (the owner) yesterday. He's not bummed about it and the store was forcing him to work another full-time job on top of working at Metal Haven full time so he's excited to start living a real life again. So I figure if he's not too bummed on his own store closing, then I can't be either.

I don't think this has been discussed here yet - next Scion Rock Fest.
this year it's in Ohio. not quite as epic as last years, but I still wish I could make it, and fuck it, it's free!

I'd be pretty stoked on at least half that lineup...I still really need to see YOB.

ha, no love for Gorguts? seeing that lineup, I actually pulled out Obscura and it's sounding pretty great and insane, still.

but man....fucking AUTOPSY!  that should be fucking mindblowing. if there's any way I can do it, I'm going to be there.
I was so into Autopsy in high school, I still think no one has done the death/doom thing better than them, ever,
and many, many bands have tried.

ha, I think of Gorguts as being more than that, though.
there definitely is a "riff salad" element going on there,
but they practically invented the riff salad.

and I just realized I'll still be on stupid fucking probation in May. maybe 2011 will work out better, fuuuuck.

Unless my sources blew it, Kuma's had a 21+ after party for the Baroness show. Come to think of it, the Baroness show wasn't 21+, the Black Tusk show the same night was 21+, then after not getting in there, it was late and my sister and I just gave up going anywhere else.

Also, Hate, Wolfbrigade and Capitalist Casualties would be sick as fuck.

Ahhh. I understand. I didn't know it was a 21+ after party. I thought you thought you couldn't go to Kuma's if you were under 21 and I was going to try and gently break the news to you that that's wrong.

I'd rather slog through a filthy ass bog of sludge or just get smashed in the face with a brick.  I'm not one for guitar acrobatics.
