Please tell me someone likes Kalmah. You guys never respond to anything I say about metal.

i used to really like Kalmah back in the day and always play heroes to us when skating.

the last couple of years Transcending Bizarre?  has been my favorite band

Neither of those bands are that good. Kalmah is stereotypical Children of Bodom-y melodic death metal. Transcending Bizarre? has some somewhat interesting parts that Sigh does better.

Fuck, Crack The Skye is one of my favourite albums of all time. But yeah, Crack and Blood Mountain were a lot different than Leviathan and Remission, and I can see why people dont like them. Im actually stoked how they are still evolving and everything they do, is different. Super Stoked that they are comming out with a new album this year.

if thats how it seems then chances are the new record will disappoint you too, i dont know any more than you do about it but i'm pretty sure they're gonna continue the direction started with crack the skye and mix in some remission-sounding stuff, which is fine by me.  i havent heard a mastodon song/album that i disliked.

Blood Mountain had better songs, but as a whole, it was a mess.  Crack The Skye was bloated and boring, they slowed it down and let the songs breathe, but they didn't do much.  Plus, Brent Hinds should never be allowed to look at a mic.

i never really get tall those debates about this or that being objectively better, i mean, i get that a guitarist might be more technically skilled than others. but alsong as a band isnt playing falsely  isnt it all just completely subjective?
then again i do rant and critize a lot of artists since i know the theory, i geuss its the same deal here.

anyway to contribute:

man a lot of the visuals in metal like covers etc are terrible :(

Supposedly, The Hunter is supposed to be more riff oriented and closer to Leviathan than anything else.

That would be great, I just listened to Leviathan yesterday, after few months, and that shit is insane, drummer is nuts.

Well, his studio vocals are not that bad, but he sucks live. The infamous Download 2007:

metamachine- what do you mean by "playing falsely"?  I like where you're going but I need to know what you mean with this first.

well playing the wrong notes, out of rythm etc (did not really know how to put it)

with painting a good composition  arranges the elements of your painting in the most optimal way to convey your subject matter. for example painting a train with the railway tracks vanishing in the distance will make the piece feel dynamic since diagonals create dynamic tension.
But even if you compose a painting in a way that is 100% efficient some people will dislike and others will like it.
after a band reaches a certain degree of competence doesn't it all become subjective?

Better then anything on Crack The Skye

Damn.... This is just too good, Im super excited about The Hunter.  In my eyes, Mastodon can do no wrong, only band that comes to my mind, that is that good,  is Down, love those dudes too.

I'm a little behind on this, but you really don't see how Sigh is a better band than Transcending Bizarre? ? That song was better on the second listen, but it is blatantly obvious that Sigh had a huge influence on them and I stand by saying that the post-black and avant-garde parts TB? uses aren't as well done as Sigh's. Go listen to "Imaginary Sonicscapes" or "Hangman's Hymn" and see just how much TB? borrowed from them.

EDIT: So I'm not just arguing, here's a new Opeth song. I'm very unsure how I feel about it. Like, I'm not sure I should include it in this thread or not.

Iskra is the shit. I've done a couple of shows for them. They do a cover of masters of war by bob dylan that is pretty crazy.

HATE!, that Fell Voices review is great, especially how you mentioned your nostalgia for California. My dad used to take us camping in the mountains when we lived there and your comments definitely resonated with my own experience. Also, thanks for the link. Listening to the album now.
