Windhand but they were loud as fuck
My ears were ringing upwards of 3 days after seeing them.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Started listening to Helms Alee yesterday ... I always loved the album art from the first album but never gave it a listen for some reason ... I think I was getting it confused with whatever band the singer from Botch did after ... and if I'd known Helms Alee had the same guy from Harkonen I would've been all over it!

Ordered the physical copy of this from The Path Less Traveled Records a while ago and I can't wait to get it.  If you like progressive/experimental black metal, you should like this.

One of my favorite metal LPs of last year. These guys seem to have really started moving as of late and it couldn't happen to better dudes.

Just got their split with Cannabis Corpse and it's pretty sick. I honestly haven't listened to anything of theirs since "Splatterthrash" but that and "Maniaxe" were both fucking great. I was always super into Impaled too.

2014 is already looking to be a great year for metal, particularly in the first quarter -
WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM coming out with a new album (i've heard late february? not sure)
MOURNFUL CONGREGATION 's new album and possibly U.S. tour (the ultimate in funeral doom. listen and cry you sad fucks)
OBITUARY (florida death metal) has a new album coming out as well.
and last but not least SUNN 0))) / ULVER collaboration which i'm sure will break my stereo.
also just heard that JUCIFER is playing in my city again, that show fucking ruled last time.

hails.

I went and got to saw them free in Tempe having never heard of them.  Good God I thought I was going to be deaf before it was over, but in a good way.  I really enjoyed it, it's gotten me started into doom.

Anyways I came here with a question.  I'm pretty knew to the whole genre, any band suggestions?

Asunder 'A Clarion Call'

Buried At Sea 'Migration' - one of the heaviest albums EVER. no joke.

Pallbearer 'Sorrow and Extinction'

Hooded Menace - death / doom but still heavy and fucking awesome

Bohren & Der Club of Gore - jazzy doom - really amazing and not metal at all

I don't listen to much doom ... but all those bands are really heavy and groovy and rule.

I've gotten a lot of new albums lately, but I just downloaded this last night.  It's from the same guy who does Gnaw Their Tongues.  Just really awesome, weird black metal.

https://gnawtheirtongues.bandcamp.com/album/ancient-paths-through-timeless-voids-2012

If you go to the original bandcamp, you can listen to a bunch of his albums from all of his different projects.

Hey guys, my name is Alex, I've done some videos and articles for Jenkem as well as released some independent skate videos on my own.

Here are a few music videos from my band Bedowyn (pronounced bedouin).

The video for this first song was directed/animated/illustrated by a local designer/animator and friend of ours here in Raleigh, NC. The song is a little more 'accessible' than the rest of our stuff

here's another video we did in late 2013, also shot and directed by some friends of ours here in town (all skateboarders and skateboard videographers)

if you like what you hear you can check us out at http://bandcamp.bedowyn.com
If you guys like this stuff I'd be happy to mail some pins and patches your way if you send me a direct message with your address.
Cheers.

For anyone into black/death, Bolzer are one of the most interesting and engaging bands going right now, I think. They sound completely unique and unlike anyone else.

I've been meaning to listen to Bolzer.  Invisible Oranges had a pretty interesting article mentioning them a few days ago.

http://www.invisibleoranges.com/2014/05/when-not-enough-is-just-right/  (I commented to defend Blut Aus Nord.)

I've slipped on posting my recent acquisitions in here, so here's all of the ones I can remember:

Blut Aus Nord - Debemur MoRTi EP
Body Hammer - Jigoku
Cult Leader - Nothing For Us Here
Cloak of Altering's discography
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (finally!)
Gridlink's discography
Leviathan - Verrater and the Crebain split
Patrons of the Rotting Gate - The Rose Coil
Skagos/Panopticon split to put together ...on the Subject of Mortality
Standing On A Floor Of Bodies/Man Among Wolves split
and I preordered the new Body Hammer CD and a split cassette between Detroit and thedowngoing.

I'm probably missing some stuff, but oh well.  I've been listening to all of the Cloak of Altering stuff pretty much non-stop.
