been listening necrophagist a lot recently

Necrophagist is an essential. Now while talking about tech death, I've been listening a lot to the latest Archspire album. I'm not even into this kind of sound as I used to be but those guys have something special.

Ultra tecnical, fast as shit and precise but everything so well orchestrated and melodic. I find the other tech death acts nowadays just a random display of tecnical ability with no "soul" while Archspire managed to do something really catchy while still being beast musicians. I'm a fan.

While I'm at the heavy mood, might aswell promote some Portuguese stuff that I find really good in the death metal department:

The Ominous Circle:

Ritualistic stuff, in that style of Portal or Dragged into Sunlight. One of the best stuff coming from our underground in recent years.

Colosso:

A more modern approach to death metal, technical but still demolishing heavy, with some 'shuggah grooves. Like an not so over the top Ion Dissonance, or a more groove oriented Ulcerate. Top notch material.

this has been the first metal album to grab and hold my attention in a while, like since the last immolation album.

I just bought my ticket for Deserfest london earlier this week, so I'm pretty much blasting albums from the line-up
since. http://www.desertfest.co.uk/line-up

And when I'm not, it's either Primal Rite LP or Eternal Champion EP

I didn't know there was a new Undergang record, I'm definitely going to have to check it out. Their first was great.

That Ascended Dead record is a fucking beast too. Their drummer played on Funebrarum's last couple of recordings, who are one of my favorite DM bands of this century.

Fuck yes Funebrarum rules.  Haven't heard that new EP yet and it sounds damn good.

New Portal is out, and I really, really like it.  The guitar has a little bit... um... cleaner (ish?) sound and makes the overall sound of the record more chaotic.

all of these links are good. Love Funebrarum, the new EP was some of their best work they've done. Ascended Dead took a while to grow on me but I really love them now.

I've been on a Mortician kick for the past year and that doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. Besides that a lot of Incinerated and Contaminated, both Australian death metal bands.

Contaminated-Final Man FFO Incantation, Demigod, Rottrevore

Just heard from a mutual friend that Caleb from Cave In has passed away. Seriously sick of all of the horrible news.

RIP CALEB :(

My band HEMELBESTORMER (stormer of heaven in Dutch) just released a full album on Van Records.
I also did the artwork and stuff.

Feedback is VERY welcome.

It's instrumental post/doom metal and just got asked by Revolver magazine if they could use our music for some documentaries.

Love 'em or hate 'em... The new Deafheaven video has, what I believe to be, a bandmember bombing hills in, what I assume is SF...

I like the band. I'm looking forward to the new album. I'm sure it will be more of the same, but that's OK.

I'm on a thrash binge at the moment:

how did I not know about the existence of this?

Great record... heavy riffs. My favorite Bathory album, albeit probably most common answer, is “BLOOD FIRE DEATH”. Someone should skate to “for all those who died”

You're not into that song or the whole album?

I think the album sounded great as a whole. The melody in the first song just got me hooked super hard and I really liked the first single aswell. I loved the simple and heavy repeating groove.

This just reminded me of one of the best releases of the year, new Will Haven:

"No Escape" at 19:20 with Mike Scheidt from Yob is something else!

In other news, I've been digging this new Rivers of Nihil a lot, I think its the Sax. Favourite tech/prog death release of the year so far.

Yeah, I'm not really a black metal fan so I didn't really know too much about them but this popped up and I was pleasantly surprised

Skatan, I haven't listened to the whole album yet. I've listened to both tracks that are out in advance (Our Raw Heart & The Screen). I have no good reason to not like them, they just aren't grabbing me. I do like that Will Haven song w/ YobMike though.
