Skateboard as luggage.
« on: March 18, 2009, 12:03:39 PM »
What's the best way to travel with a skateboard by plane if it doesn't fit in your bag or suitcase?

I always have to wait for my skateboard or sometimes it's even wet. Fuck that.

I've always carried mine on without question, but check with the company first.

depends on the airline. sometimes they'll make you check it, sometimes they let you carry it on. It basically depends on who is working the check in counter.

Always try to carry it on. Usually, if they get decide at the gate they don't want you to bring it, they'll just put it in a closet or something like that.  I've been carrying a strap to just attach it to the bottom of my duffel bag and they usually don't even notice that it's a skateboard.
i saw my grandma bail off a 4 set once in my house and she even got up and came to red lobster after.

I've never had to check my board and I have flown damn near every major US airline. I refuse to check anything, always trying to get in and out of the airport as fast as possible.

I carry mine right on too. No big deal.

ALTHOUGH, last time I flew, I overheard some security saying, "a skateboard can kill someone way easier than a lacrosse stick"

I guess someone couldnt carry that on, but a skateboard, no problem! Hehehehe.

I've never once gone up to the ticket counter and spoke to a person.  I always use the self check in thingy with the airline.  I fly/flown alot and have carried my board on everytime.  I never check luggage, only a back pack and a skateboard in hand.  if it doesnt fit in the overhead it'll slide under seat just fine.

I've never had an airline give me shit, either. I have a skateboard-strap thingy on my backpack that I use as carry on for work trips, and like RightCoast, I've flown with nearly every domestic airline as well. Coming back from SF to New Orleans I had squeezed two completes and about 5 decks in that strap... my backpack must've weighed 50 pounds (it was full of cameras and skate shwag) and United never even batted an eye.

If i need to bring a lot of luggage i'll rock this venture bag which has a strap for a board on the bottom and then a backpack. They usually consider the bag and board as one piece of luggage.

no matter what, if somebody questions you, just tell them that a different person already said it was fine. strapping it to a bag makes 2 things into 1 real quick too.

Yup, I also have a framed hiking pack that i'll take sometimes and i strap my other pack onto it and carry my board. Again, I've never had any problems. And if anyone is taking trips book it now. I bought a flight back east for $130.

the last 3 times i have flown out of the netherlands, where i assume you are from, I tried to carry it but that didnt work...
klm air france lufthansa vueling etc..,  so i strapped it to my bag and that was okay, sometimes it came loose a little in transit so you may want to have an extra luggage bar code stuck to your board, just ask and they will do that no problem.
that way if they get seperated they will be able to get it to you
