Killed my thread, bumping this one. Mike rules. Only 3 Foundation boards I've ever had. Feel like this guy was ahead of his time. Was bummed that he retired that fast.

Kinda surprised I never replied to this thread. I loved Mike's skating AND he was the nicest guy ever. I think I worked on a couple of tum yeto projects that he was in and between that and my years at 411 I never met him, but when I was transitioning careers in like 2008 he came into the Trader Joe's I worked out while I went back to school (it was down the street from Mark Waters house RIP where Mike was living at the time) and he was so shocked I recognized him and was so damn nice. Great dude. Wonder if he still skates?
ok thanks

I went on a Mike Rusczyk bender today and it made me want to know: What shoe sponsorships did he have?

If I recall correctly he was on Duffs at one point, not sure of other shoe sponsors

Ive said it numerous times on my previous account, but itís worth repeating that Mikeís Art Bars part is my favorite part of all time, and a huge influence on my skating.

What barely ever gets mentioned is just how much of a park killer he was. Between the Good Times are Killing Me, and the bonus footage in the Art Bars dvd he absolutely crushed parks in that era. I wish I got to witness his skating in person during his peak years.

Maybe not the most technical by todayís standards, but Mike Rusczyk was sheer quality.

Feel like he was skating DC Lynx in some of Art Bars.  I recall a line at Pier 7 in the Lynx.  Twas a pretty sick combo for sure.

Heís wearing Lynx throughout his Art Bars part, but also a few Emerica sprinkled in, including the first clip.

True.  That video was like an MJ2 commercial.  Lots of great MJ2 footage in there.

I love when he does that boosted backside flip on that bank in his art bars part and you can hear his buddy scream "Yeah!!!"

Did he run a website called popills.com? Itís defunct now, but the memory rings true.

An old Transworld spelled his name ďRussickĒíonce upon a time.

I love Mikeís varial flips and no complyís especially. No comply was the easiest trick to come to me as a youngin and I taught them to a friend once too. He had an incredible one shot by Gaberman, I believe, in a Skateboarder spread. I remember him saying they were pretty out of style and he wanted one good one as a sort of last hurrah. A couple years later he had dipped and suddenly that trick was annoyingly everywhere and I feel like Mike never got his due for carrying it so well for so long. Eh.

Thrasherís website used to do a ďenter here for a free boardĒ and I won Mikeís Amateur Retirement board + the Retirement Party video that way. Sold both on eBay ages ago, but I was mighty stoked at the time.

That Pig wheels swirl ad is fire! Mike is my favorite skater, and Iíve mentioned (I think in this thread prior, without going back), informed so much of my idea of skateboarding.

I also had the orange/yellow swirls.

He would have fit seamlessly into modern skateboarding. Way ahead of the curve.

Yeah I loved that swirls ad too, along with the autumnal leafy intro to Foundation pic. For a relatively simple trick itís a standout photo.

I think youíre totally right - he was way ahead of his time with his approach to skating and would have fit in AND stood out nicely in todayís landscape.

Heís got a great kickflip flick too- specifically thinking of a kickflip 5050 (maybe with an alley oop ns 180 pop out ?) on a flat step-up ledge in one of his foundation parts.

That time period of Rusczyk on Foundation and Strubingís 88 and Thatís Life parts I always saw them as kinda similar. Both had their own really cool approach to (mostly regular) skating that made me see things a little differently too.

He did kickflip 50-50, front noseblunt, and front 180 to switch back 50-50 on that ledge

Iím pretty sure he did 50-50 ollie up to 50-50 too. The top rope was way harder to skate than it looked
