the sex pistols were/are pretty lame too. they never did anything original, and only had a few good songs. they just had the "look" so everyone views them as the posterchild of UK punk.
people in the UK had been playing music influenced by the mc5, new york dolls, the heartbreakers, richard hell, television etc. for a while before the sex pistols came into existence and wrote the corniest music ever written.

GG Allin - I used to write to him when he was in prison, I was like 17 years old and he would write back and draw cool pictures in on the envolopes in colored pencils.  Earl Parker lived in my town, and made a zine called Polyurethane Monthly, we both had mini ramps in our basements and Earl would take pictures and he didn't skate much he had blown out his acl ligament.  I gave Earl the address to write to GG, and he put the interview he did with him in the next issue.  The day I graduated highschool, Powell did a demo with a little mini ramp and some funbox, and Earl gave Tony Hawk a copy of the zine.  I was trying to get Tony to sign a Duane Peters skull skate deck I bought at the skate shop, but when he saw the board he wasn't having it.  Then about six months later I was a freshman in college, and Earl stopped at the dorm on a tour he was doing for Big Brother and gave me one of the first issues he did as editor of Big Brother.

Some other bands I like are: The Mentors (I don't know if calling them punk is correct, their on another level), all Duane bands, and Johnny Thunders, and The Ramones.

I like a lot of that old school 80's punk rock, mainly Op Ivy, Minor Threat, and DK. When I was a teenager I was really into surfer punk rock, (not really anymore) but my one of my favorite punk rock albums of all time is Heavy Petting Zoo.

amdi petersens arme was a great band from denmark. the templars. seeing the business was a treat. other good bands were geza x & the mommymen, vieja escuela from argentina, narcosis from peru, mutantex from colombia, eskorbuto, etc. i know a bunch of people (black, spanish, japanese, etc) first hand that swear by the first skrewdriver releases (pre-national front chiswick releases).
