me and my roommate challenged our two friends to a "sabbath banger" contest. we had one month to write and record a black sabbath-y song. you can dl our song here (http://www.mediafire.com/?ew7952p31d6f1rx). it's called "yawning portal." hope i don't get flamed too hard for it. we had a ton of fun recording it but our set up was pretty janky and i've never really written this kind of thing before.

I have a chance to go to a big-ass stomer/doom festival in april. Pentagram will be there, but since I'm mostly into their early stuff and I know they've changed a bit over the years, could someone tell me if it's still worthwhile ? Of course, it's pentagram, it's just kickass to have seen them once in your life, but is their show still good ?

They haven't really changed there sound that much.  I think that it still would be worth it.  I wanted to see them with the Gates of Slumber but I had money issues that kept me from going.  There are tons of videos from their last tour on Youtube, sadly they canceled the show they were going to play when they came near my town.

If you are needing some Dopethrone style doom, check out a band called Cough and their album Ritual Abuse.

Came through town the other day. Missed them though.

Yup, roadburn. But I'm probably not going, cause you can't go for just one day, you have to buy a ticket for the full festival or else you're not getting in. That ticket costs €150 or something, which I can not afford. I know a guy who's in the festival's organization and maybe he could fix something for us, but he already said even though he tried, there was no chance of it happening.
And I'm not really psyched to go work and save up the €150 to go to a festival for 3 days where I only know 2-3 bands that are coming. I don't doubt that it would be really great, but the money's holding me back. Bummed on missing Pentagram though

How come nobody has said QOTSA?

I don't know too much about doom/sludge stuff, but I always thought Melvins, Kyuss and QOTSA were like the prime examples of Stoner Rock. Well, I guess the new Q not so much, but the older stuff, and a couple of other songs......

Man, I love Grief.  Vitus is good, but I don't worship them like a lot of doom fans do.
Maybe it's the cross in the middle of that cover? Buuut, Ozzy is pretty christy too...

Unfortunately this is more and more true.?  They were the shit on every album Nick Olivieri played on though!

yep. Nick didn't play on the first album, though, and that's the best one.

Its pretty crazy how mandatory and essential Sabbath was and is to sooo many genres of music, and how little people comprehend and understand it..
