Okay, I got a new pair of Indys for the first time in a while, I no longer have my last pair of trucks. I haven't tightened the bushings at all yet, I've heard of people cranking down on them too much and ruining them from the start.

I know it's going to suck, but what can I do to break them in without fucking them up?

Jimmy replaces them with bones medium bushings. Breaks in in no time and they fucking last forever.

I'm 21. I started skating when I was 11 or 12.

I haven't skated since early-mid high school because I started fucking with drugs, eventually picking up a hardcore IV heroin addiction that ruined and nearly ended my life. After years, it seems like I'm starting to get my addiction under control. Today is 19 days clean for me.

It's been a few years since I skated and I just picked up a new deck and new shoes. That's why so many n00b questions about hardware and shit.

Just trying to get back into it for fun and to keep my mind off other shit.

After dealing with so much shit, getting made fun of on the SLAP forum is the least of my concerns ;]

All I want to know is when I'll be able to tighten them (and just a little bit, not a lot) without having to worry about fucking them up and making them all squeaky/start peeling etc.

Does anyone understand what I'm saying?

I've heard multiple times that if you crank down on fresh Independents before "breaking in the bushings" that you'll fuck them up (not that I wanna really crank down on them, they just need to be a little tighter for my liking).

I don't know, maybe what I heard is completely wrong.

If it is, please enlighten me. I won't take offense, pwomise.

I'm not saying I'm right about anything... I just want to know how to not fuck up my bushings.

alright man, no one was really trying to make fun of you just so you know...

as far as i can remember, you'll see if you're tightening them too much. if you tighten them within reason, you should be fine. just keep an eye out for it. sorry for the misunderstanding, but this topic is called "breaking in indys" so that's what we were telling you to do. i know thunder bushings always fell apart when i skated them, tightened up or not. but i know what you're saying. you'll be all good though, and if you do fuck them up, pick up the bones. they're cheap as fuck. hope that's helpful in some way/shape/form.

Alright Holmes, here's some tips. Use your old bushings, works out the kinks faster unless your bushings are shot. Buy the Bones medium bushings, the ones with the yellow caps. They are no joke and make all trucks even better. When I was on the road and didn't have time to break in new trucks, I'd put the slightest amount of a lube in the pivot cup. On the road it could have been Chapstick, Carmex, or a drop of speed cream. It takes away the stick to it. Don't crank down on the new bushings. For Christ sakes, they are Indys and it's a crime to ride tight trucks. Besides all of this, a new pair of Indys will break in pretty good after a full day of skating.

the only way i 'progress' with my bushings is getting them looser and looser until the nut falls of. then i know it's time to start shaving away at the bushings so i can get them even MORE loose...

progression (at least for me) isn't ONLY about tricks and pop. it's about how loose you can stand your trucks.

dont get new bushings that shits regular unless you tightened your shit up so much that you blew them out. but eventually your bushings are gonna start looking janky, but that doesnt mean they wont work just as well if not better. i've been riding some hand me down indys for a good 7 or 8 months now, and when i got them one of the pivot cups was already (fuck i cant think of the word...)...i guess worn away. not the bushings but where the lil clit of the truck that rests in the anoos of the base plate. anyway the anoos is extremely gaped. and i fucking love these trucks. i'll be sad when i finally breakdown and buy new ones.

I just bought my first pair of indys yesterday. Idk if its cuz its my first pair of brand new trucks (rather than second-hand tucks) in 7 years, but its was annoying trying to break them in cuz the bushings were so hard. everytime i tried a trick the bolt would come off the kingpin (axle, w/e) cuz i ride my trucks loose.

but yea. use old bushings. and u problem is solved.
