Were these conflicts considered when building the park there? Just seems pretty obvious neighbors wouldn't be feeling the noise. Not gonna lie, I'd probably be bummed if I lived there too.

It will be open until 7:30 during day-light savings time.  That's about the time that it gets too dark to skate there anyways.

Skaters should give the park back to the gang members that, apparently, the park was intended to drive out.

And it seems that a reasonable closing time would coincide with noise ordinances in the area. I would not be hyped to be woken up at 3am by a bunch of people skating, when i've got to be at work in a few hours. Kids skating the park at 3am are asking for trouble.

Also, too bad those people live in apartments made of paper. Our park has three houses even closer than the ones that are in the article, nobody hears or gives a shit. Like the park in the article, our previous park was previously pretty sketch at night, but now it's safer with the skate element (many of the kids who would be out causing shit at night are skating instead).

park is really fun, but those houses are directly across the street, i can see it getting annoying, especially if you dont skate or care about skating. but i would rather of a park full of kids skating, then a park full of gangs.

They've been fighting that park since before it opened. All the people there moved next to a park, and its apartments, not condos. They don't own their own spot, let alone the lot across the street.
How does this get press when eminent domain is used to build freeway lines and freight train lines through poor neighborhoods all the time?
Such typical LA bullshit, the smallest thing on the west side is like 911 times 100 (That's right, 91100), but serious problems in South LA and East LA get ignored as unfixable. If you look at the public facilities in different parts of the same city, its hard not to feel nauseous. This city is so fucked up.
Also, how exactly does shortening hours stop people from coming to the park late at night? I know, next let's raise the drinking age to 25 to stop weed dealers!

i don't know how they couldn't foresee the noise problem to begin with.  i guess the non skateboarding residents couldn't have known how loud it would be.  they need to start building these things in more of the unused spaces like under freeways and stuff like Channel Street. 

how about Griffith Park?  there is so much fucking land up there..  Griffith Park is in serious need of a skatepark
