I used to work with a gay dude who was really into metal which is also a pretty homophobic culture and he was always somewhat quiet about his preference.  Most of his friends outside of metal knew through highschool, and then right before college he came out to his family and the rest of his friends.  Needless to say, no one was TOO surprised and everyone was VERY accepting.  Keep in mind that this was in fucking Kansas, which isn't the most accepting of states.  I would like to think that we are finally getting closer to a more accepting culture.  I've never understood why anyone would ever give that much  care to who someone totally unrelated to them is fucking.

Even though these guys are metal and gay, the second picture is also evidence of the homophobia, so no particular point made here.

Is this homophobic or hilarious? I sent this to a gay friend of mine and he agreed with the latter.

funny how people are suprised that big manly guys with tatoos can be gay

completely homophobic American culture

seriously? aren't we the ones who are pretty much leading the way to helping make the gay lifestyle more accepted? as far as i've seen american media is kind of leading the world in that area and i'm not sure that too many other countrys are having the same battles about sames sex marrage that we are. doesn't pretty much every country in the world have laws against homosexuality? we seem progressive to me but maybe i'm missing the bigger picture.

USA is behind a couple of countries on that issue but since American culture is dominant it's more noticeable...

U.S. sodomy laws were struck down in a 2003 supreme court decision. It even says it in your article, which goes onto mention many other countries that do have them still, kind of proving Sleazy's point.
I'm not saying things are perfect for gay people in America though. There still is no discrimination protection for them at all. You can be fired for being gay and it is totally legal.

I'm sorry, I thought Sleazy's points were that America was at the forefront of legalization of homosexuality including gay marriages. The links show that a lot of other countries have done more, and did it earlier than the US.

"doesn't pretty much every country in the world have laws against homosexuality?"

I don't see how the sodomy law link proved his point either...

Oh, its because it mentions about 20-30 other countries that do have "sodomy" laws, then explains that the U.S. doesn't. Therefore, it kind of proves sleazy's point that the U.S. is more progressive than many nations.

First of all, the term Sleazy used was "leading the way", which is quite different than "better than some". But let's continue...

If you group the US with that minority of 40 countries where male-male sodomy is illegal (mostly 3rd world countries), then yes, States seem ultra progressive and you can start celebrating. But If you group them with the 100+ other countries where homosexuality is legal, then not so much.

You see, if the vast majority of countries have legalized homosexual acts, then the fact that the US have also done the same (and only in 2003 on a national level. USA #1!) then it's not progressive anymore, it's normal.

You do have a point there. However, I never even implied the U.S. was ultra-progressive in any way. If you pay attention to my posts, I am constantly talking about how regressive America has become, particularly since the Reagan era. Still, the thing about the U.S. is that it is very different by region. Many states struck down these kinds of laws in the 60's and 70's, and there are definitely states that would still have them if they were allowed.
Again, not saying we are perfect, or even close to it, but we are also far from the worst too. Issues like gay marriage and civil rights are still have a long way to go.
