youtube and music videos

"Reuters is reporting that You Tube Inc. is currently in contact with record labels trying to negotiate the rights to post both current and older music videos on its site, which visitors can view for free.

You Tube co-founder Steve Chen told Reuters “"What we really want to do is in six to 12 months, maybe 18 months, to have every music video ever created up on YouTube.” While YouTube won’t specify which labels they’ve been in contact with, Warner and EMI have both confirmed that discussions have taken place.

This would be a deal huge for YouTube, which, admittedly, has already enjoyed a meteoric rise up the ladder of success since its launch last year. The site already achieves 100 million views per day, and reportedly accounts for 60% of all videos viewed online by specializing in home-made clips put up by users."
