here's a great posthumous album by a NY avant-garde cellist/disco legend. so, so good.

Arthur Russell - Calling Out Of Context

Always heard bits and pieces of and about this dude, including heavy recommendations from friends but never properly got round to fully engaging with a whole album until. Apart from one track, that whole this was fucking sensational. Incredible back story too! Died too young but holy shit he was a busy bunny. Worked with all kinds of heads including Allen fucking Ginsberg!
Thanks for sharing man, any more links?

glad you enjoyed it. i had read about him and i randomly bought that cd when it came out a few years ago without even listening to his music beforehand. it was so amazing to me at the time (and still is, of course.)

here's some more albums for ya

(oh, and your welcome guys for the James Blake album. if you're starting to get into Arthur Russell Jack, you should definitely download that James Blake lp. i think you'd really dig it and Matthew Dear's album from last year, Black City too. i posted that a few pages back. check them out.)

arthur russel is one of the great all timers, his dying love songs on the country album are some of the most heartbreaking things ever. mad scientiest too, released under more than ten names in different genres through the years. he will most certainly blow up (post-humously) within the next ten years.

damn, can't let this section drift off to page 2! i have some fresh leaks and a dj mix i didn't even know about. check 'em out

Gang Of Four - Content

http://hotfile.com/dl/97933499/82046d0/content.rar.html

Simian Mobile Disco - Delicacies

http://www.mediafire.com/?f6w34scolmtr187

Joell Ortiz - Free Agent

http://www.mediafire.com/?bpfmua1ao2awbe1

Braids - Native Speaker

http://www.filesonic.com/file/42439153/B-509.rar
(some really echo-heavy, dreamy stuff with female vocals. pretty good for a debut album)

G-Side - THE ONE...COHESIVE

http://www.mediafire.com/?9yyrmxdpmo75nrz
(don't know too much about this group, but this album is amazing. it's some creative southern rap with some orchestral and epic sounding beats (sounds great on headphones.) definitely worth a DL)

Dirty Beaches - Badlands
http://www.mediafire.com/?nofu2mjkzp5uvmc
Really like this, kind of throwback garage/rockabilly but really distant and much darker

Ducktails - Arcade Dynamics III
http://www.mediafire.com/?dxd1kdj3mz4qw3p
More acoustic instruments and tracks with vocals than on most Ducktails releases, but still really good

Spectrals - A Spectrals Extended Play
http://www.mediafire.com/?ph8jadek9rq9i49
Phil Spector/Motown influenced lo-fi pop

Also, Kilgore's Tom Waits post is amazing.

First off, thanks guys. I've spent the last day and a half getting so much good stuff from this thread. And to give a little back.....

Metallica's Ride the Lightning, ripped at 33rpms instead of 45. Get your weed out.

Fluffy Lumbers is Sam Franklin from the New Jersey shoegaze group Big Troubles. He makes songs that sound like Ty Segall with way more pop hooks. Catchy and simple
