Calling all beat makers! calling all hip hop heads! Let's do a beat battle!

First thing: we need someone (not entered) to pick a sample out for contestants to work with (via youtube clip or downloadable link)
Next Thing: we should vote on which sample (or samples) to use
Last: contestants post their beats and we'll vote on a winner

Prizes may include
Gnars
Rawb may bless your beat with a dope rhyme (if he's down)
and one skatepark of tampa sticker

I'm diggin' this idea. Sounds fresh. I won't enter though. I'd be way more hyped to hear what you guys come up with. If the beat is killable I'd be interested in droppin' some stuff over it. And if you need somebody to suggest a fresh song to sample I'd be down for that too.

awesome! I was hoping the both of yall would get in on this.
As far as the beat goes, anything is usually allowed in the beat battles (at least the ones I've been in).
Drum loops, kits, pots and pans, whatever fits your fancy.

that billy Idol song sounds fresh but it almost makes it self.
At 85 beats per minute all you'd need to do
is chop the samples measure by measure , add a backing drum track and BOOM!
You've got a beat.

Perhaps we should use something slightly more challenging since I fear that all
of our beats will end up sounding the same.
I think something with a less prominent rhythm section may fit this battle better

Yeah, you're right Able about the Billy Idol track but believe me it's way harder to tweak than you'd think. I was thinking that you could kinda keep that rhythm going but add different drums and a sick bassline and re-arrange the samples like we did. We then also added some other stuff to it. You can hear what the song is and it's dope but it turned out completely different.

I remember piecing together the guitars from Ac/dc's "Black in Back" to John Cougar Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" and then adding the backbone to make it sound super filthy.

Now as far using some classic stuff if you want to give it that old Pete Rock/Large Professor(the bells..Nas-"Halftime"),The bass(Too Shorts-"Life is") feel you can use this. I'll throw in a creepy sample that Godfather Don used on "On The Other Side" for you guys too.

Hell yeah! Now remember there has been alot of stuff used on that Axelrod joint. Towards the end you hear the sample loop from INI's "Think Twice" so do it to it and keep it gully!

Here is the beginning of that Axelrod track used an example.

Yeah.....that is it. You can do way better than that though. Do the sample justice. The G. Rap is beat is pretty filthy but it can get flipped harder than that.

Oh Gulo.....if you can you should shoot off a link for your beat you laced for Rawb....let me peep it again and I'll see if I can write something for it. I don't really want to just freestyle it or whatever. I do way to much of that and it gets boring. I'd like to take a little time and drop something a little clever. I write pretty quick though. Let me know what's up!

*edit: Oh shit! Kinda feelin' this Gulo......I hope you don't mind a little criticism but I'd amped if you laced that bassline through out your cut and made it a bit more predominant. Make it about 2 or 2 and 1/2 minutes long maybe. I think it might work out sicker for ya and I might just destroy that shit straight up. Dope.

I swear I've heard it before so I went ahead and made a beat sounding like the one

I am really enjoying all the work you guys are putting into this shit. It's really tight, makes me wish I had the equipment to join in on this but this is a really dope contest. All the stuff sounds good so far
