kickflips
« on: September 07, 2006, 06:58:38 PM »
i have been able to do kickflips for years now, and as the years go by, they still dont seem to pop very well at all. sometimes ill get a proper one, but other times when they pop even average it just goes all mobbed. my tre flips pop higher than my shitflips. what do you guys do (foot placement, etc.) to pop 'em high?

the more i put my front foot on the board, the slower and higher they go.  the more i take my front foot off the board, the faster and lower they are.  just mess around with some foot placements.

Same.  Don't sweat it.  As long as you can squeeze one out for a game of SKATE, then whatever.  I just gave up on them.

The earlier the flick the less height. Dragging your front foot up longer like an ollie before flicking will get them higher.

i had a problem with kickflips awhile back. shit was embarrassing. it would turn backside for no reason at all, not the whole way, just like fourty five degrees. i got over it though.
nearly every time I see a possum it's in dead form.

Try to ollie more, then flick it. It'll increase your pop for sure. Give it a shot.

you know i thought this was completely bullshit and it depended on the person but i gave it a shot today and couldn't have felt happier with them which led to me re-learning everything that way except tre flips.

i found it helps to wait a "beat" if that makes sense. have your foot more on the board and ollie like normal but wait like a milisecond more then you usually would. this way you don't have to use your leg so much either it's like all in the ankle and they level out a lot better and take a lot less effort. also (i don't know why) i found if i put my back foot farther in on the tail, like the left side of my back foot can just feel the flat part of the board and then i pop it out like i was sidestepping forward a little it helps me land on the bolts and get some extra height.

scratch that back foot placement. i just tried them in front of my building and you don't get enough pop. made sense in my head. just find a sweet spot in the middle of your tail where you weight is centered on the board. i do put the back foot closer in then on ollies though.

master the ollie first, then the kickflip will come.  and when i say master it, i'm talking about popping them high, going really fast, without having thinking about it.  when your ollie becomes second nature like breathing then move onto kickflips.

if your skills are beyond this point, the only tip anyone could give you is to make sure you're kicking out on the flick, like a kung fu kick to someones face and not down like you're stomping out a roach.  theres a reason why its called the kickflip and not a stompflip.

i lost my kickflip at the beginning of this year after doing them really well for 3 years....  i got so bummed for a while but i just went onto other tricks....  Strangely i can fs flip, hardflip and fs half cab flip even though i cant kickflip for shit....  that always gets my friends laughing....

anyway, kickflips is just one of those tricks that you just lose once in a while.... just do other stuff in the meanwhile like heelflips then when you start feeling good again just go for it....

on a side not my friends and i have "ugliest" kickflip competitions all the time... i always win....
