Map for skate spots and parks worldwide
« on: August 23, 2024, 08:16:37 AM »
Hey!

I've been working on a spot map as a side project for the last few years and it's finally live. My main goal is to give skateboarders a better experience in finding new spots in their area or in new cities. Either in daily sessions or on skate trips. With a user account it's also possible to save your favorite spots, which comes in handy when you're on the go. Everything is for free!

Now the map is missing some spots. I would be happy if you could take a look and add your favorite spots, a registration is not mandatory!
You can take a look at spots2skate.com.

Thanks!

That Shinner app has been out for a while, how this is better?
Srsly asking, didn't mean to sound like a dick.
Sir, I'm going to politely, but firmly, ask you and your common sense to leave this establishment.

Well, that's completely justified. If you already like using Shinner, you should maybe stay with it.

To put it in perspective: I started working on spots2skate.com during my first job as a web developer 5 years ago. After a long break, I have now finished it and am currently working on the project on my own (it's non profit btw. as there are no ads, sponsors or weird analytics)

There are a few things I do differently and would like to keep differently in the future.

The biggest difference to Shinner and other apps is that you can use spots2skate without registering. I'm not a fan of forcing people to have a user account.
It can also be used as a website and web app for smartphones. That was important to me because I look for spots on my laptop with my friends on skate trips and would like to have them on the go. If you create an account on spots2skate, you can favorite the spots and have them across platforms (laptop & smartphone).
I also don't like Shinner's “digital currency”, there's a more elegant solution to this, which is also on my to-do list.

There are also other features planned and I would also like to involve people who have good ideas. There's definitely still a lot on my list to make it stand out even more from the other apps.

All in all, however, it's also just a hobby project, with which I want to solve some things more simply and beautifully :)
