The ADV line is only classic models (superstar, samba, gazelle, campus, as well as forum, nizza, and a few others that have popped up recently).
Busenitz Vintage is probably the closest fit to a Spezial, in my opinion.
Right... and their lacking. They don't fit great and look worse on foot than the originals.
For all of the ADV shoes being around $100 now, you would think they would figure out how to push their most notable models and make them a high-tier skate shoe. They change patterns and fit of models between colorways which is confusing for someone who wants to skate multiple pairs of a shoe.
I've skated and worn a lot of adidas shoes and not once have I had the feel of 'oh wow this shoe feels great'
I have to agree, as much as id like to see Adidas skate do well as an adidas fan there isnt much reason to buy their output. Most of it just seems like an afterthought and their skateline most times is either lower quality or indistinguishable from their general line.
I have a pair of adv stans and a pair of stan lux i bought on sale, the skate are less comfortable, look worse and dont skate much better if at all.
I wouldn’t necessarily disagree, but I also think how a skate shoe is used plays a part, like does it make sense to use top-quality leather and add 20% to the retail price for shoes that are essentially designed to be shredded and replaced often? I’m not sure that’s sustainable.
The shoes are $100US or more, what is there to defend? The ADV line had an $80 price tag 2 years ago or less
The pricing across all the shoes being pretty flat is a easy tell that they just mark that shit up to $100 and they will still sell. Why is a Stan Smith ADV, Gazelle ADV, Samba ADV and a Forum ADV all exactly $100? Does nobody notice this?
It’s a fair point, but I mean, lotta boards were still $60 two years ago too, and now it seems like $70-$80 is the new standard.
And again, the ADV models are essentially the same build as the standard models, but typically with a slight mod for durability, cushion, or support, so if a Stan, a Gazelle, a Samba, and a Forum all retail for $100, it makes sense that the corresponding ADV models would continue to follow at the same price points like they have been. That’s not to say I think all of those shoes should be that expensive, but the last five years have been awful for most supply chains. It’s just reality.
With goods in general becoming as expensive as they are, I think having multiple price points of the same shoe is actually kind of appealing, especially for an activity that has a high percentage of young participants who don’t have a ton of disposable income. The nicer models are out there (depending on the brand), but ultimately you’re going to get what you pay for.
