Wanna buy a skateboard magazine?
« on: September 15, 2006, 06:48:06 AM »
Time4Media, Parenting Group Magazines Up for Sale
Time Inc. is looking to unload several of its smaller niche brands as part of the publisher's new strategy of focusing resources and investment on its largest and most profitable brands. Titles up for sale include Time4Media publications Popular Science, the Marine Group, Time4Outdoors, TransWorld Media...

When I first saw TWS in it's own separate magazine kiosks in the airport, I knew it was the beginning of the end.   I guess they aren't about the integrity of the sport after all.  Why do skateboard companies continue to support these corporate clowns?

FUCK YES "sk8nigga" posts something ! ! !

And it wasn't some total pish, about crap. . . .

Anyway, skate mags need to get a wide distrobution from a major company that can cover there loses from mags not getting sold, obviously as you can imagine skate mags dont' get sold out all the time, so shit loads will get pulped.

Sadly if it wasn't for big business, there wouldn't be things like Thrasher, TWS and baiscally any mags, that's why Big Brother was so good, it was done out side of Big Business to start with. . .

It's all about loses and gains, if it's not making enough profit each quater - sell it

Anyway we could all go back to making Zines, fuck the internet, why wouldn't you want a local zine from somewhere in the middle of nowhere like Buckie ?

"Aye and ats'fan Mikey, did'en, fukin'switch'krizzels'on'eh'fukin'Safeway's curb"

With a ghetto photo to match, and articles on skating the fishing landing patch after they've landed eels. . . . .
...can't believe this thread brought Donnie Murdo out of the woodwork!

Your name says you're street and raw, but your topic and writing style pegs you as a spy for the corporate clowns or a kid who does all his chores before his mother can tell him to.

Thanks for the kudos d_m but Thrasher was and still is independently owned.  I remember when Thrasher came out, newsprint style.  I remember when Slap came out newsprint style.  Do you think when all this xtreme hype gets flushed down the toilet TWS will resort to being a zine?  Highly unlikely.  Thrasher came out when there was no other alternative, when the only mag was friggin Action Now that catered to surfers and sandboarders.  I don't know about who's running the show now that Fausto is not around, but I'd bet the house that Thrasher would go back to being a zine, if the bottom dropped out of this industry.

Bert my point is what is the fuckin difference between TWS and Nike?   Same effin thing.   Yet you don't here any skate companies saying "Don't Do the Time" in reference to Time4 Media.  That shit is chock full of ads.   There's like 7 skatemags out there.  Surely you'll get your marketing point across if you advertise in 6 of 'em.

p5...you are gum on my griptape after I attemped to wipe it off with a napkin.   i'm black. i skate.  that's some parody.  should i be called "skateboard black guy" for you? who's ur fav skater Njyah?  i've had pics in the mags.  been sponsored.  worked for the industry.  created scenes.  what have you done for skateboarding besides posting on slap forums and form opinions based on my writing style?   Not enuff misspellings and ghetto-fabulous venacular for pee fizzle?  my bad, son.

today can wait

@sk8nigga. since half the skateboard industry is owned by large corporations nowadays, and TWS has been for a long time, i don't quite see what the fuzz is about in this particular case.

TransWorld SkateboardingŪ is the largest-circulation skateboarding magazine in the world, reaching more than 1.8 million teen boys, one of the most difficult to reach audiences, each and every month.

This magazine is not for me.

Not really. How are a Hollywood report or video game reviews* "tight"?

He's up there for me, and I'm not just saying that b/cause he's black.

Not as far up as me in my personal rankings.
