anyone ever bent their af1 hollows? I still can't figure out if mine are bent for sure cause the wheels and bearings are sliding on and off fine. when the trucks are dismounted and I have all four wheels on a flat surface holding the baseplates, the axles line up next to each other fine, and the wheels touch normal on the table. but when I flip the trucks over and set the baseplates down on the table, each truck has one side where one axle sits lower next to the other truck, and the hangers aren't stuck in a crooked position either. I'm still gonna keep skating them but it's just odd. are slightly warped baseplates a thing? I noticed they both have the slightest play that kinda evens things out if I push a finger down on one of the corners of the baseplates.
Is there a bur on the bottom of your baseplate? I get like I little bump from nose slides on my front truck. If so maybe it’s pushing them a little off?
Murge - I know what you are talking about with the nose slide bending the edge of the baseplate down, but I have also had trucks of various brands that are actually warped too, more recently an inverted truck from another brand that seemed almost new but had a significant warp in the baseplate.
Not sure if it was from throwing the board, or from heavy skating - the owner has been known for both - but any which way, things are definitely not flat down like every other baseplate I have sitting on the counter right now.
Overall this baseplate still works fine on the setup I put it on, but it makes me wonder. As to bent axles or other funny things going on, yes any truck can have issues, usually bending axles will mean that it has bent just at or inside the hanger end, so you can still easily get wheels or bearings on and off, but when you line them up with a square or something level, usually without wheels on them, it can be quite obvious.
Again, skating with slightly bent axles is not that big a deal, but more often than not wheels will wear a certain way, mainly coning towards the inside of the wheel closest the hanger, so that is the main thing to watch for.
