what i'm saying is if forrest's "bad" attitude matters so much as to why you
practically refuse to acknowledge his performance in the competition, then
treat the industry like one in a million and people like peabody and sean
shouldn't get awarded either.

you can't say its arbitrary that they are asshole because they rip potrero
and then turn around and say forrest didn't deserve to win because
he was an asshole. it doesn't make any sense.
I mean, if the creator of the universe is truly concerned with where you put your penis, then surely he has an opinion on who had the best part in Fully Flared.

awwww i really liked the ending

I don't get it. How did I support that? I talked multiple times about how they were assholes too- having cool guy attitudes, Peabody refusing to go out to bars with people he didn't know well, getting drunk and acting like assholes to kids at the park. Its actually in the proof you presented.
I talked about Forrest being an asshole, I talked about those guys being assholes. I never said not to watch any of them skate, and I didn't advocate them winning any contests.
What is a hypocrite exactly?
I'm confused.

i actually think your comments about this contest have been pretty fair the whole time

i think your common sense board needs rewiring. gipper just called all of them assholes, and neither promoted or insulted their attitude, but it was written with a negative connatation. what the fuck are you trying to argue?

Super awkward:

Everybody looking at the ground, sheepishly shuffling around while Jon mumbled on about how Forrest had finally earned his respect on the last day.

Great season though. Really fun to follow it all the way through.

Im down for the way this turned out, Whiteley made a very good point on the final decision. It wasn't in Slaps best interest to just hand over some kid who is going to make them look shitty with a crap attitude. Forrest is obviously the best skater out of the group, but isnt well rounded and has some personal growth to get over before he becomes the straight freak we now he is.

Forrest on Toy is weird to me. I say turf Moose or Furby and throw Forrest on Deathwish. Reuben fits Enjoi well and Jon is sick and I think he fits Zero perfect. Zero isn't really that hesh rail company to me anymore. It feels more like an all around straight to the point skateboard company now more than ever. Especially after hooking up a Keegan pro model.
come on dude, what in the world made you think that was a good idea?

come on man. don't play semantics with me. you're smarter than that.
i can pull example after example until i move away from my original
point which will lead to you attacking all of the arguments that are only
presented as support. why don't we skip that whole ordeal?

the fact of the matter is you and everyone else knows that there are
people with bad attitudes who have achieved some level of recognition,
success, notoriety, etc... forrest isn't the first and certainly won't be the last.
the reason i bring any of this up is because its ridiculous to say he didn't
deserve to win a contest which is judged or actually SHOULD HAVE been
judged based on his skateboarding.

you aren't going to make a thread about some dudes skating potrero,
whose title basically suggested anyone who watches it should cower
in the shadow of their ability, yet exclude the fact that they can
be scumbags who think because of their skating they are entitled
to some kind of proverbial throne which happens to placed on top of the
hill at potrero.

i don't want to go on arguing this forever because it can easily go that route
but for someone who has lived in san francisco or california and seen first
hand people in the industry, you of all people should know that a person's
attitude doesn't always matter. if anything it rarely matters.
skaters can be completely fucking full of themselves and have an army of followers.
prime example: your thread dedicated to the guys skating potrero.

don't attack some random fucking dude in a contest when there are way worse
perpetrators of the "bad attitude" approach. its just petty.
the kid rips, end of story. if his attitude is so bad then he wont make anything happen
and that will be the end of it but does it mean he didn't deserve to win the contest.
in my very very very humble opinion (which i reserved for weeks) absolutely not.

the skate industry, more than ever before, has always based sponsorship on skating AND attitude/personality. you dont get on girl by having koston skills but trapasso attitude, no matter what. This contest, if it was just the first 2 stages of it , ie you send in your videos, the best dudes get chosen, then yes, that means forrest should win. but by having them in sf for a week, and a rare direct flow opportunity where whiteley puts you in contact with the owners, it is no longer just about skating. or think about it this way, slap brought them there, and just like soty is SOOO subjective but taken as fact amongst us, even if it was just about skating, whiteley should get to pick the kid that didnt piss him off all week.

But considering how vauge the parameters in this contest are I'm not suprised how it turned out. Either way Rueben and Forrest got lots of great exposure and I'm sure they will do just fine.

i'm way late to this thread but i think that forest should have won. i find rubens nice guy ass kissing more annoying than forest who was basically just keeping it real. unfortunately for him, real is an arrogant, asshole but that was just as awkward and contrived as his cigarette photo thing. the guy was humbled in the end, played the game he was told he needed to and then still wasn't judge fairly. if anyone beat forest it would have to be on style and i don't see that john's style is that much better than forests. that kid crushed every spot he skated and for every spot that he sat out that everyone else skate there were spots that he skated completely by himself because there literally wasn't a single other person who could do a real trick on them. add to that the fact he was most interesting thing about this season and the guy should have take it.

but whatever, i think overall it was done really well and the top 3 is who i think should have been there. ruben kickflip 5 0 hubba was definitely a pro calibur trick, john was gnarly, well rounded, creative and forest was the straight hammer skater.

I agree, Matty should have been in the top 3. But why wouldn't John? He skated almost every spot they went to, skates fast and ofcourse that hill bomb was beyond gnar, he got some bonus points for that whether you like it or not

i thought forrest was going to cry but hey, at least now he knows(as well as every kid thats watched this) that a cocky jock-like attitude is just not welcome in skateboarding.
so many kids think that skating is some sort of competition.  i mean to some degree it is but you're only competing with your board and yourself, no one else.  the sooner people realize this, the more fun it becomes for you and everyone around you.

I suppose you could chalk it up to personal preference, but throughout that week the only thing I found memorable from John was bombing that hill and eathing shit, then bombing that other hill trying to ollie that set and not landing it. Sure he gets points for that stuff, but to win from it is a bit much.

i preferred everyones skating over forrests.  he does the same tricks that everyone else does on the same boring obstacles that everyone else does them on.  he has no originality whatsoever.  different strokes for different folks.

If this contest was based purely on skating, John shouldn't have even been in the top 3. Matty got ripped off he shoulda been in Johns place.

But Rueben and Forrest really stood out the most throughout the whole thing, it's messed up to me that either of those guys didn't win. But considering how vauge the parameters in this contest are I'm not suprised how it turned out. Either way Rueben and Forrest got lots of great exposure and I'm sure they will do just fine.

I agree, Matty should have been in the top 3. But why wouldn't John? He skated almost every spot they went to, skates fast and ofcourse that hill bomb was beyond gnar, he got some bonus points for that whether you like it or not

I suppose you could chalk it up to personal preference, but throughout that week the only thing I found memorable from John was bombing that hill and eathing shit, then bombing that other hill trying to ollie that set and not landing it. Sure he gets points for that stuff, but to win from it is a bit much.
I guess, but he also ripped that one ditch spot and the flowershop. So yeah, I guess its just personal preference

Some of you guys are making way too much of the staples in the head thing... I had 8 staples in the head once and it was no big deal at all. They were slightly irratating and itchy. They in no way indicate that John was "gnarly".

skating with staples in your head is kinda ballsy though. it makes the chance of hitting your head again that much more dangerous.
it was a gnarly risk when john skated with them, and it was also a gnarly risk when you, sir nocomply, skated with them.
I see it as dangerous as skating vert without pads.
(and before someone replies me that tons of people skate huge tranny without pads, I know dumbass. doesn't mean that isn't gnarly too.)

Did you get them by bombing a ridiculous hill? And doing big shit with staples in your head makes everything more risky obviously...
