best stage of Independent trucks
« on: December 22, 2010, 09:16:13 AM »
Are stage 8's the best? I always forget which stage it was before they changed them. Anybody know the best stage?

Stage 10. Independent knows what they're doing to the point where I guarantee their trucks will not regress into some lower quality. If you don't believe that go buy some Tensors and die

im like 85% sure that I'm riding some stage 8's right now
and they are awesome.

but i haven't tried any of the newer stages cause i only buy trucks like once every 5 years. so my opinion is worthless on the topic.
but i am interested in hearing what others have to say.
even if its going to be peppered in with stuff about dicks, halfcab colorways, and where bummer high gets their stickers made.

right, because those automatic baseplate breaking holes on the stage nines were AWESOME. they really did a great job with that. and now that the stage tens have the pre-slipped axle, and way less material on the hangar, they'll bend and break even faster than before.

they've been on a steady decline, quality-wise since stage 7. the parts are forged in china, and assembled in the usa now, using inferior alloys, and recycled steel axles that are prone to bending.

they HAVE regressed to lower quality, but at least you're keeping it core as fuck, bruh.

that said, i still ride indys, and will continue to do so forever.

but to cluelessly just ride their nuts like you are is stupid.

This is the noticable difference with the stage 10. They don't have those two slots in the baseplate because that would decrease the strength of the baseplate significantly and you would get all kinds of crazy breaks pictured above^.

so did indy step up from these? another problem i always had was the kingpins would snap all the time. i replaced them a twice for each truck.

Yeah, well the solid baseplate is a step up. I've never broken any of their kingpins so I don't know if that's any different though.

if you're breaking a lot of kingpins, your trucks are too tight.

they were kinda tight but nothing too extreme.
ive skated the same for the past few years and i dont snap other kingpins as fast as the indys.

Dont be scared by some of these guys, indys are fucking strong.  I had a pair of stage 8 or 9's, lasted about 3-4 years.  The axle finally snapped cause i grinded down to the axle, once the axle started grinding a bit it didnt last long.

For some reason, Stage 7's were my favorite, except for the whole axle slippage issue. but man I loved those trucks

My experience: 8s are a gift from God, 9s turn funny no matter how tight you keep them, and 10s are decent.

Interesting thread at that site in terms of specs and time lines.  First Indy's I rode were Stage V.  Didn't commit to Indy's on a permanent basis until Stage VII in 1994.  Had some stage VIII's right up until earlier this year.  Skipped Stage IX and now I'm riding X's.

The pupa stage, right before they sprout their wings and flap off over the rainbow. It's magical.

When you land primo, your axle slides and locks up your wheel.  You then have to bang the other side of your axle to get it to slide back to normal.

I have stage tens and they are nothing short of amazing. I don't know why you're crying about indy's maybe you should stop riding them if you have these issues with them. Indy's aren't for bitches like you anyway

i used to be into the stage 9 hanger and stage 8 baseplate, cause the the 9 baseplates broke far to easily. But im pretty sure the stage 10's are on point.
I'm going to the one in Ontario. I got invented or else I wouldn't go.

Stage 8 where awesome, still have a pair on a cruiser. From what I heard when they did the Stage 9 they changed the turning radius slightly and that is why the new ones don't turn as well.
