Yeah mine died about 8 months ago, one of the original 60 GBs, had so many more features than the slim ones, notably, PS2 backwards compatibility

You can buy this heat gun and try to fix the part where the laser reads but in my opinion its a huge hassle and most of the time doesnt even work, or works for a short time

Guile and PsychedelicLife both tried it im pretty sure when theirs broke

That's pretty much what i've read about the repairs. Looks like im getting a new one today.

Do you know if there's anyway to transfer the shit on the HDD to the new one?

I doubt it

I had to start all my games again, redownload all my purchased DLC, maps packs and the like

Do some searching though who knows you might be able to

You can transfer anything. You have to back up your data. Im pretty sure its an option under settings, but you have to store it somewhere that has enough space like an external harddrive or a computer. And if you didn't buy a new one yet, just search around for somebody who can fix it. I have friends who have bought broken PS3's off Ebay and fixed them up

yeah the problem was i didnt do a backup for quite a while so i lost everything..

i bought a new one today anyway. Couldn't be fucked sending it to sony for $250.00 + postage and then having it fuck up again.

When I went to buy a ps3, I wanted the ps2 comptability to play GOW I & II and stuff, but the salesman discouraged me to do so, because a lot of people had brought back theirs because of the yellow light of death

they try to repair them, but most of the times it's a hopeless case and they can't do anything about it. I played it safe and bought the 80gb one and kept my old ps2 too

When i spoke to sonny they said that it would be the same ps3 would be repaired and sent back, but i've read that most of the time they send a refurb of someone else's and that usually breaks after a few months. They get you by only giving another 90 days warranty. Fuck that.

ps3's got a safe mode which can be used to make back ups, most YLOD's dont cause safe mode to stop functioning, google that shit.

pretty sure you can only safe mode with the new slim models, I tried to safe mode my old 60GB to get my disc back but ended up smashing the fucking thing

I used the CF card reader for my DSLR, but it was rare

I miss the PS2 compatibility so fucking much

Especially for these titles

Haha nice work with the hammers.

I ended up unscrewing mine so I could get cod out, but I couldn't get safe mode to work either.
