The most memorable thing in this series is how Kalis was able to skate famous spots for months; everyday for hours on end and just chill, skate and have fun with friends.

I don't think you can do that today for the most part. You get kicked out in record time.

depends where and how famous i guess. based on how many people skate now compared to when they were talking about, stuff is bound to get blown out quicker

Damn... thanks for all the ill ass reply's. Pretty fucking wild.

If only i could multiple quote shit so i could answer some of these questions in here... I'll try and remember some.

As far as that company i was going to do... i could never let the cat out of the bag on who was going to ride with us..

Fuck... now i feel like i shoulda asked Stevie for 20k!! lol.

AVE is still one of my favorite skaters.

That old contest footage was ridiculous... i had no idea it even existed. But yeah.. the mall grab at the end was fucked!!lol.

The "deal" that Dyrdek sealed for me was a baseball card style thing that never panned out. Those toy deals were coming and going for a couple years.... but they never come through.

My technique on 360 flips... i really don't know. Its pretty much just a timing thing. Like both legs just need to be in sync. I put my back foot on the edge of the tail.. not in the pocket like a lot of people these days.

It was funny as hell to me when Dyrdek brought up the Slap board. He always gave/gives me shit for peepin it. You know.. funny style.

The M3 just stays pretty much stock. It just has some lowering springs. After i built my Camaro(69).. i quit dumping money into the daily's. I also gave up street racing once i moved out here.. they crush cars here from what i hear.

I could never look as natural on a board as Mark Gonzales. If i can still have a career at his age.. i'd be stoked. Much respect to the Gonz. I love watching his cruise through NYC videos Fat Bill does.

Word up!! Thanks again for the compliments... it really does hit home.

Oh yeah... i will add that Chicago was WAY harder to skate 10 years ago when the Terminator was around. Too bad i wasn't able to tell those stories. Downtown CHi is pretty cool these days. Especially on the weekends.

It's a shame Chicago never became a big scene like Philly. In the summertime Chicago is unlike any other.

100% down for Josh. I didn't think this would be my favorite Laterd, but now it is. I have nothing but respect.

Come skate Detroit.

I haven't skated Detroit in mad long. I have been meaning to get there.. but i always end up in Chi. I broke my foot pressure flipping the Heart Plaza steps back in the day. lol. Six? stair downstairs.... My foot landed part way on the board.. i actually rode away from it.. and when i stepped off it hurt a bit.. went and sat down on the brick ledge.. when i stood back up... i just collapsed. That night had my foot in a cast.

Mr Kalis, Sir... I love the way you push like a man! Enough with featherfoots already. Also, the fact that you still skate in shoes of "normal" thickness, not girly vulcanized ballet slippers makes me always happy to see your footage. Thanks for infinite inspiration for us "stuck in the 90´s" people

The Cards episodes seriously couldn't miss.  It's a given.

But I will be amazed if Pat can ever, ever come close to doing another EL as good as this.

Indisputable respect, one lifer to another.

I suspect that the nuttier the skater the better the episode. I´m still waiting for Andy Roy EP, possibly Grosso. Have you seen Grosso´s Ink Blot? Within a minute or two he tells insane stories behind his tats that annihilate that  little cunt Dylans bor-a-thron.

Oh yeah, the true walking dead Duane Peters should also have more than enough raw material for a three hour episode.

Oh yeah... i will add that Chicago was WAY harder to skate 10 years ago when the Terminator was around. Too bad i wasn't able to tell those stories. Downtown CHi is pretty cool these days. Especially on the weekends.
Love was always good... but we did have to deal with the skate task force on the daily. WAY back we could skate all day with no problems.. but 99-2004 it was hit or miss.
And NYC is always good. As is Frisco. The Island is my new favorite spot these days.

Hahaha. I'm so hyped you are talking about terminator. That dude was a legend amongst bike cops. Even if cops were gnarlier back then I never had jail time threatened for skating the city back then. Like 2 years ago I was about half a breath away from getting locked up overnight for skating the Wendy's bench. Of course, I just turned 18 10 years ago, and the older you get the harsher they are.
You ever meet that one with "jesus saves" letters and a cross on his helmet? I'm pretty sure he has a nickname too. He started lecturing some friends and me about how we were sinning against god for skating. Then my friend gave some smartass remark, he tried to cuff him, and we all booked it out of there. That dude was obnoxious as fuck.
Also hyped that I supposedly have a similar approach to 360 flips. Of course, mine looked nothing like that.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

It definitely made Dyrdek seem cooler that instead of trying to defend his business and celebrity oriented ways, he admits its not exactly the cool thing to do and makes a joke about it. He easily could have done the bullshit guys like Sheckler have pulled where they talk about how we would do the same thing if we had that opportunity.

If he's a bike cop... yeah i know him. The only dick left. At least the squad cars virtually leave you alone now.

Lucky for you... you never got locked up for skating. I've seriously been locked up for skating 20 times. Frisco, A lot in Dallas, but Chi Town.. they would put us in the paddy wagon and drive us to the Robert Taylor homes on the South Side. Drop us off... and wish us luck. We would have to walk to the Red Line... all through the projects on MLK Blvd. After a while the hoods would just ask.. "cops drop ya'll off again?".. and would escort us through the PJ's. Scary... but funny afterwords.
The craziest time was the "Big Chase" at the Art Institute. The cops came in from Michigan Ave and flushed everyone down the sidewalk.. the security guards were locked arm and arm across the sidewalk. Most of us just tucked a shoulder and blasted through... one homie got hemmed up and smacked the guard in the wrist with his board. Broke the dudes hand. when me and the Ruta's got away.. we were walking on the underside of (forgot the street) bridge heading into lower Wacker. A cop was crossing our path. As we walked by him.. his radio said to stop and arrest all skateboarders downtown if seen. We looked back at the cop and he immediately started chasing us. We cut up stairs and jumped in a cab. Back to Wicker Park. If i remember right... non of us 50 or so kids got caught.
You think im bullshitting... Uriah, Kiko, Ruta's, Methvin, Jeremy...ect. All the Uprise heads were there. It was crazy.

Thanks bro. It was a snowball.. i wasn't planning on building it so crazy. But i ended up catching some sponsors.. they hooked up some free parts. And i didn't pay labor because me and 3 other guys built it over 7 months. I do know it has about 90k worth of parts on it... and IF someone wanted the exact car built.. the labor would run about 100-120k. So if it was a customer paying full price... built from a shell.. i would guess 250k for the build.

Man, haven't heard someone mention the Terminator in a while.  All my Chicago friends would talk about how harsh that guy was in the 90s.

Ever skate Boston Josh? It's still the shit. skate spot to spot across the entire city all day, no car needed. it's a overlooked gem like how you make chicago sound, and probably will never reach the status it had in the mid-90's, but it's perfect that way - I highly suggest it!

It was crazy.

your the fucking best man keep it up

Damn... thanks for all the ill ass reply's.

Yeah, he was a bike cop. It's been too long since I skated the city, but I heard its all segue dudes now, which seems a lot easier to get away from. Squad cars never gave a fuck, they had bigger fish to fry or something to be running around at plazas trying to chase kids. Bike cops were always just assholes with something to prove or something. The only time I ever got beef from them was a few months after 9/11 at the post office. I had a backpack with me and put it down by the statue, they were on crazy alert and flipped out about the bag. When they figured out it was nothing, they just lectured us about how sketchy it was to do that now and didn't even say shit about the skating.
I don't specifically know about that chase I think, but I remember towards the end days of art institute there were some crazy stings that went down with them surrounding the place, and having to run back and scramble over the back wall just barely getting away. I remember one where a couple of dudes ended up getting arrested. Everybody was freaking out. A friend of mine went out a different way, none of us had cell phones yet, we didn't know where he went, and we heard people had been arrested and were so worried, he was like the young one too, we felt like assholes, but then we found him.
I've had that drop you off in a sketchy spot thing happen to me in SF. Got caught skating late at night, wasted, bombing hills and skating houses at like midnight. They brought us to the police station at 3rd and williams down in like bayview/double rock, booked us, gave us tickets for drunk in public and for skating, opened the door at  like 2 am and let me walk home alone, while my friend got put away for a stupid failure to appear warrant. Funny thing was, I had no idea that it was that bad because I had just moved to the city, and was just wasted, walking down the street (board was needed for evidence back at the station), and called my friend's girlfriend to pick me up. She flipped out and flew down there to get me, and chewed me out for getting her boyfriend locked up on the way home, even though he's the fucking dude who didn't pay his damn speeding ticket.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”
I quit skating for a time due to piling out

Josh, if you ever want to quote multiple peeps:

1. Open up two browsers.

2. Log into SLAP on both of 'em. Have one of 'em set up like you're replying to the thread.

3. For every question you want to quote/answer, just use the other browser and make like you're gonna quote that post. Go ahead and click the quote button, you're not gonna put your answer there. Instead, just highlight, right click, and copy that bitch. All that shit with the person's name and stuff, all of it. Then go back to the first browser, the one you actually gonna post, and right click paste that shit right on there.

4. Kick your DGKalis knowlege below it.

5. Repeat! Or copy and paste all the questions you want to answer first and go back and put the answers in between.

It sounds like a lot more work than it is. Also, you can always just have the other browser going so you can just read the questions while you answer them.

Just tryin' to help a brotha out. Oh, and speaking of helping a brotha out, thanks again for the kicks. You are seriously one classy mother fucker. I appreciate it so much.
