Fondo RIP
« on: February 25, 2011, 01:10:01 AM »
Some sad bad news. The famous spot in Badalona, Barcelona is being ripped out. Today everybody in here we all making a demonstration.

http://video.google.es/videoplay?docid=-730866082765254803#       minute 7:27 ( just some reminder of awesomeness in that natural skateplaza)

for some nice pictues of the destruction going on just add my homie "Alberto Duran Cantero"  on facebook and see the photo album called "diario de guerra" aka "war diary" for my homies in states.

sorry for not being able to share photos directly in here

Thanks and peace out.

That sucks, but most spots don't last forever. I skated fondo about 8 years ago when it was relatively new and it was one of the most fun spots ever. Just be stoked you got some before it was gone. I imagine there's new spots popping up in barca just as fast as old ones are disappearing, well hopefully!

I never got to skate Fondo, but I imagine it being a spot heaven. Most obstacles of what a street skater would enjoy.

Fondo's maybe my all time favorite spot. My first few years of skating I lived in Moscow, that was the late 80's/early 90's, we skated this marble plaza (Oktyabrskaya square, Moscow locals?) and that was just heaven, about as pure fun as skating can be. Since then, the only place I've felt about the same has been in Fondo.

Long time coming I guess, was impossible to skate there when I was in barce in 09, cops show up straight away if you skate and make a really big deal about it (or so I was told) which is strange seeing as it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Are they destroying it just to stop skaters? Totally insane if that's the case.

The park itself must be relatively new, don't see why they would want to 'doze it.  A real shame that you won't be able to skate it any more, easily one of the funnest spots I've ever skated.

the spot's been getting shittier every year. metal strip on the marble ledge, wtf. shitty flatbar in the way, tiles breaking down. i can imagine the plaza being an eyesore for local residents, it just started to look bad and worn out. sure it was fun, but for this they'll probably build 10 other amazing spots.

this makes me sad.. one of the funnest spots I've skated. sucks for my buddies that are flying out there in 3 days with like 5 dudes but in all honestly barcelona would still be amazing even if half the famous spots were gone.

They did, they also pulled the benches apart so you couldn't roll on them and added stopper rails on the small banks. But still that place was great even only with the top part and the big bank. I love the fact that it's such an open space and not many people around.

Damn... really?  It's been a few years since I skated Fondo but that was my favorite spot in all of Barca.  It was never packed... the banks were cool... when the fountain was drained it was even better.  That ledge near the sculpture was fun too.  My buddy was switching out wheels and lost a bearing in one of the grates near the lower banks.  Some kids that were skating with us pryed open the banks to rescue the bearing.  I was psyched and got icecream bars for everyone.  Icecream bars... Fondo... skating with a cool crew... nothing but good times.

looks like they just teared out the banks and build a replica of carlsbad gap and a niceplaza with tons of perfect marbles ledges.

Maybe this is common knowledge by now but Fondo is still kind of skateable just not that marble bank.

Wow thats sucks. Remember being on tour in Barcelona back in 2002-2003 something and we randomly went by Fondo. The place where just done being built, but had fences around it. We where pretty amazed of thats spot. like, no way.. Asked to skated it, they said we could skate it in two weeks.. But then I had already left. Took a few years, but I got to go there with Jesus Fernandez and Daniel Lebron a few years ago, and had an amazing day. Never got to skate it again.
