Based on your sig and Varathron, you should check out Zemial if you have not already. Underrated Greek project. Can't speak to their later stuff but this album was in heavy rotation back in the day:

Oh shit yes, thank you my friend! Just read a review on Encyclopaedia metallum, sounds fucking cool! I love a BM album that harkens to the ugliness of early Sodom, much more fascinated that it's Greek (deviating from the more typical early 90s Greek BM sounds). I am a proud Greek bitch and I love my heritage of bands, so this is a mighty contribution my friend! I tend to lose interest when the mid 90s turns Greek BM into a more or less Iron Maiden with a tad bit of gloom & Goth with excited swim coach vocals .... LOL. But this seems to be proper raw, gonna spin it this evening!

I probably posted in here already but I listened to Venom, Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate and Bathory when I was around 11 or 12 (so 1987, 1988) and I'm a big fan of Darkthrone, Mayhem, Immortal, Carpathian Forest / Nattefrost, Marduk, Gorgoroth, Satyricon, all of Fenriz' non-DT stuff (Storm etc.), Ulver (prefer the later ambient stuff though!), and Burzum.  As for Darkthrone , I love the old stuff, but I REALLY lovewhen they got more Motorheadish. I never got into Emperor for some reason. I like SOME Dimmu Borgir (and Old Man's Child), I feel like its over produced usually, but there's some good shit.

Ownage, hahahaha

Seriously though @ok boomer that rules! I often wonder what it would've been like to be old enough to witness all that shit happening in real time, especially by '87 there's a really phenomenal nucleus forming around the black metal style. You have the Black Mark L.p. & Blasphemy coming to in Canada & Sarcofago showing their shit in Brazil & so many more around the world simultaneously stumbling on to the same magical & necro sound, before it even became what its known for today. That's cool as shit! And then to go into the early 90s as a budding teen, what a ripe time to experience all that new music. I'm curious - did you perchance collect any tapes or records at that time?

Also please pardon the double post but @FrozenIndustries Zemial was such a killer & thoughful Rec, thank you my friend! I enjoyed the Ur L.p. very much, but even more so am loving the Necrolatry demo! To my ear the sound is overall more raw - which I very much prefer! Either way it's cool as fuck on both releases! Super sick to hear a more or less Northern style played by a Greek - there are even moments when the Norse / Swedish BM flourishes fuse with the trademark Greek melodies & atmospheres and it causes a super intriguing result! Good shit all around, thanks again!

@Armin Tamzarian I am glad you liked it, the guy behind Zemial was in Varathron for a bit so I figured you might be interested. I am not familiar with that demo, but will check it out.

Was going through some old CDs and found my copy of this: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Encyclopedia-Pestilentia/release/569165

This 3CD set was my introduction to so many bands, including Moonblood and Hirilorn (pre-Deathspell Omega). The Moonblood track, Fullmoon Witchery, is one my favorites by them.

I don't know why this type of raw black metal feels more earnest than other types of black metal. Either the shitty recording or the vacant feeling when listening to it before bedtime I get a sense of ease when hearing soundscapes of this type or classical music. I swear my hearing is going to be fucked if not already fucked.

Fucking excellent, thanks for sharing.

I was in Alhambra at a buddies house a few years back and got a shitload of these tapes didn't realize he was owner of the label of Rhinocervs they call the crew the black trinity very creepy, but good dudes and badass music.

Holy shit. Not sure how I missed this but that’s crazy lucky. Rhinocervs Tapes are highly sought after and really rare so you might have a (proverbial) gold mine of cool pieces.

When those tapes were dropping I was living so cheap and was in the zone of just buying everything that got posted on the Pure Stench Forums (including Rhinocervs). I ended up selling a lot of it over time, but I really wish I would have held onto them as those tapes were super good.

Holy smokes I wish I could have a couple dubs of those tapes, I have most of them downloaded or mp3's  but I love this genre of black metal especially the ambient tone and rawness of it so intoxicating.

I go through a black metal phase about once a year, I'm balls-deep in it right now.
These days I'm super into Grima. Atmospheric BM from Siberia.
