a couple albums I've been digging lately:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1ENxToLsc4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B81hgl8rUSM&t=296s

love these both. The Departure Chandelier record is perfect

That was pretty sick. Great drummer. Relapse put out a bunch of ringworm (hands down favorite band) records...

great post 100%. just got a copy of the Drawing Down the Moon reissue too and it sounds really good. Been listening to a lot of Katharsis, Gloria Diaboli, Pseudogod, and Ululatum Tollunt lately. Oh and VON.

Man I've really been digging this record. Never been big on mayhem, but I've found myself going back to this one a lot so far.

Anybody remember weakling?

https://youtu.be/VU7EJNc6ipk

That part at like 4:55 is still the most frostbitten evil thing I’ve heard a black metal band write in the past 12 years

Weakling was sick. I haven't listened to them in so long because I was put off by how into that album the whole Pitchfork set was like 10+ years ago when they were all trying to be into BM. Riffs still hold up.

I definitely felt the same way at the time, but the more I listen to that album the more I appreciate it and also Dispirit

I found out about them being a nerd one night and looking for Viking metal.

Totally worth listening to this album, there needs to be more bands like this here.

yeah I'm loving the "viking" era Bathory influence going on. That era of Bathory isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'll drink that shit all day.

I always thought it was funny that the black metal thread was started with a Thou recommendation. So I'm gonna go back to this thread's roots and recommend an album that is also not black metal. The mighty CONVERGE 'All We Love We Leave Behind' because I think everyone who likes extreme music should hear this record.
