I always thought it was funny that the black metal thread was started with a Thou recommendation. So I'm gonna go back to this thread's roots and recommend an album that is also not black metal. The mighty CONVERGE 'All We Love We Leave Behind' because I think everyone who likes extreme music should hear this record.

Converge has such a strong catalog. I love this one, and the latest one, The Dusk In Us, so much. First one I heard was No Heroes back when it came out, and since then, they have been my top 3 easily.  Great, great fucking band.

And of course, Jane Doe..

I was gonna say take it to the Hardcore thread but nah Converge has been pretty hard to classify for a long time now. I always liked their definition of themselves when they started out as hardcore kids with leftover Slayer riffs.
them cats are out getting mashed up to jungle, he's out mashing up jungle cats. it's just not gonna work.

Not black metal, but related

http://raspberrybulbs.bandcamp.com/album/before-the-age-of-mirrors

Damn never thought I’d see this on slap, ha. Think he has few other projects no...? I used to listen to Bone Awl (or just raw black metal in general...) religiously and I’m like 60% sure he had one band that i think was meant to be a joke of their sound/band... teeth gnashers? Something like that

Edit nvm. Don’t think that was raspberry bulbs, but i know there’s a mock bone awl band in existence...

He did a few releases as M. Del Rio and Special Breed (with collaborators) when both RB and Bone Awl were still both on hiatus, also Grand Mood with the CW Productions guys. The Bone Awl guys were also in a jokey grind band called Belabor who did a split with Sloth.

I love raw black metal but I don't follow a lot of stuff these days. Bone Awl and anything related is always special to me.

Finding that one rare gem that’s not on YouTube or is just that rare you can never find it. Example the creeps and spider cunts.

I don't know why this type of raw black metal feels more earnest than other types of black metal. Either the shitty recording or the vacant feeling when listening to it before bedtime I get a sense of ease when hearing soundscapes of this type or classical music. I swear my hearing is going to be fucked if not already fucked.

Once I was alone I just laid on the futon listening to Leonard Cohen and thinking about the other girl I liked and missed.

Been enjoying the new batch of releases from Spiritual Disease, but this one is my favorite. Reminds me of Mutiilation a bit.

I loathe the Christian preachy lyrics (would that make them white metal lol), but I’ve loved this album since I was a child. The vocals of Giving up @3:54 are too sick.

Not just Black Metal but Transylvanian Tapes put out a good mix of all things black, doom, death, sludge and so on into the abyss...

Anyway, you can download 3 hours of this shit for free.

Good stuff, man... their studio recordings remind me of raw black metal vibes.

Lotta great bands coming out of Texas. Found these guys VIA Spotify’s weekly discover. For fans of creeping death, fuming mouth etc

Heavy shit. Bolt thrower worship basically lol

there is a new mare cognitum which is out that i haven't heard yet, but i'm looking forward to it.

and i've been listening to ruins of beverast a lot lately, they're so fucing good... barely black metal but i don't know what else to call it
