So does Tyrion get to pick a champion again? Does said champion have to fight Jamie? Braun vs. Jamie? Fucking cliffhangers.
[close]
Wait wouldn't Tyrion pick Jaime to fight for him? Jaime was his first choice in season 1 the first time he had a trial by combat, although that was before Jaime lost his good hand.
I'm thinking The Mountain would fight whomever Tyrion chooses to be his champion, and I was hoping he'd choose Prince Oberyn to be the guy to fight for him, that way the dude gets his chance for revenge and everybody wins.

Crazy shit was when the Greyjoy sister goes up to save her brother and he doesn't even want to be rescued, he's so fucking far gone from being tortured, now he's gonna go on a mission to pose as his former self?
Shit is so weird but so awesome.
Last 4 episodes should be all bangers.
[close]

I think he can't. He is accused of a crime against the throne and Jamie being the head dude in the kingsguard would be a conflict of interest.
[close]

Considering Tyrion is accused of murdering the king I think it's fair for me to tell y'all that Jaime will not be Tyrion's champion

On top of that, Jamie is short a hand, and there's no way Tywin or Cersei would ever allow him to be in harms way like that.  Since Jamie can't do it, The Hound is gone and that other old dude defected to Danyrs' camp, whose better than The Mountain? If that's the case I can't see him fighting anyone but Oberyn in order to wrap up that revenge arc.

Even if it were allowed for a Kingsguard to defect and fight on behalf of the accused, Tywin would never allow it in this instance. Jaime is missing a hand, significantly less skilled as a swordsman than he was before, and would mean Tywin would be losing probably both of his heirs at the same time (Jaime loses, he and Tyrion both die). End of Lannister bloodline.

I thought it was interesting that Tywin subtly acknowledged Jaime's and Cersei's incest-born children in this episode.

Nice that Oberyn was asking the hard hitting questions on the trial.

I haven't read the books but I am thinking somehow Cersei is going to find The Mountain to fight against Tyrion thinking nobody will volunteer to be Tyrion's champion because who the fuck wants to fight The Mountain? Prince Oberyn, that's who. He hates The Mountain with a passion. That's where my guesses lie for the coming episodes.

This.
Plus the 8th episode is called "The Mountain and The Viper".
Sounds like a done deal, gonna be sick.

Is it a spoiler if the answer lies within the trailer for season 4 that everyone watched already?

not sure if throwing a woman down a hole constitutes 'kicking ass'.

The bath tub scene between Melisandre and Stannis' wackadoo wife? That was nothing. I'm glad she showed her jugs again though.

At this point one's so numb to all the excessive things in the series that it took me two days to remember which bath tub scene you were talking about.

What are the working rules in this thread? I just found it. I have what I would consider an advanced knowledge of the books and extended universe and don't want to accidentally spoil shit.

Even trying to keep in mind how often characters die in the show that still caught me by surprise with how brutal the killing was.  No way The Mountain survives all those stab wounds though?

SEMI SPOILER ALERT (and my spoiler isn't that much, but still, some people don't like to know anything.  You can find out more from Google.):

Time will tell.  It's a very grey area in the books.

I totally get where you're coming from, it was more of a speculative question to discuss to discuss rather than like "Hey someone tell me now..." kind of deal.  I guess I always underestimate how many people have actually read the books.

I'm not going to spoil anything don't worry.

HATE the best part about Dany's speech was that she wouldn't look at him. She was staring right past him.

Oberyn didn't see that shit coming. He got his confession but I doubt he heard it.

I actually found that scene upsetting. I don't think I'm a prude but I was disturbed that something so fucking brutal was on such a popular show. Like, it's one thing if something like that is in Scanners but to have that sort of thing normalized by being in a mainstream show was weird and made me think of that Elliot Rodger asshole and all the DBags watching along elsewhere.

Then there was just the angle in the story where you get your hopes up and then you watch powerlessly as the guy you identify with is unable to stop a brutal end. This might take my personal 'worst cinematic death' award from the Jewish soldier getting stabbed in Saving Private Ryan.
