How do we know that technically mature civilisations make many simulations of their technically immature past?
Do they mean like video games
Simulations are a means of understanding events, testing theories, etc. We make simulations of the physical world - natural selection, black holes, etc.
If we had the computing power, we would also make simulations of the social world.
The argument doesn’t need every advanced civilization to develop simulations. Just a non-negligible number so that there are more simulations than there are/were immature civilizations.
The more simulations they create, the more likely we’re a simulation
Hubris of the highest order. Elevates technology to religion. Kind of ignores the fact that technology is the top of a pyramid of consumption that is far outpacing our resources.
Edit: After thinking about it, 100% intelligent design argument.
That’s the “technologically mature” part - a civilization that has harnessed the power of its solar system and is not on the verge of destroying themselves.
A type II civilization on the Kardashev scale:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scaleFor the argument to work - it just needs to be more probable than not that there are some politically stable civilizations with a Dyson sphere (or whatever) and enough curiosity to make simulations of their past
It has religious implications, but its impetus is skepticism. Although, the implications for the problem of evil are dope.
