I wonder how many times I've skated around Slap posters at the park, maybe even in my immediate group of friends, and not even known it.

Something I pondered recently, but not today, except when I decided to post it in this thread: If two kids of divorcees get married, and then their parents hook up, would that mean everyone in that family is committing incest at that point? Maybe they would be committing legal incest but not blood incest.

A fun skatepark that also has the horrible yellow obstacle outlines? Weird choice, but at least it's not an Olympic practice facility.

Putting a bench on top of a bank has been one of my favorite games since the beginning of my skate life.

@IpathCats, a SLAP meetup probably could go in any of many directions but I did randomly reach out to a member that I learned was in my area and he and his girl stopped by and we had an awesome skate on my mini.

Not gonna lie.....it felt super-sketchy but at the same time it felt like an awesome thing to do.  We met at a nearby park first and I quickly knew they were chill, and I think they didn't feel in danger so we came to my place and had an awesome skate session.  His girl was learning but had no problem doing her thing.  He was amazing and a total inspiration for me and I was enlightened by our conversations as well.  It amazes me that someone can just drop in and rip on a never-before-ridden ramp but he was killin' it.

As someone who started skating in old age I know I am a short timer for skating, but I did build a ramp in my yard and am trying to collect some good memories.  This particular visit was truly a highlight of my skate experience and when they left I truly felt that I had found some skate homies.  SLAP members generally seem to be solid, good hearted people so that made it easy for me to send the invite out.

So today I am pondering sending out more invites.  If you're in my area, hit me up!  (See profile for location....considered Southern New England, Providence, RI and Boston, MA area).

Was thinking randomly about the Toronto Raptors' name. Raptors.

It was influenced by the popularity of Jurassic Park, and anyone who was a kid back then remembers how cool the velociraptor was. But for the team to still be named "Raptors" in 2021, where the popularity of dinosaurs has waned (at least I think it has), and it's no longer the mid 90's (however much we wish it was), is strange.

Are they keeping the name around mainly for the purpose of nostalgia? Are 80's babies who were kids in the 90's that profitable and reliable of a demographic? Toronto in the early/mid 90's was pretty magical, so it's possible.

Might be time for a name/image change at this point is all I'm saying.

This is so totally unimportant to anything but I still felt like rambling about it.

These boards have changed quite a lot the last few years, for the better I think, to be less hostile and bigoted. I wonder though if people posting here are still primarily straight dudes. I know there are some gay, women and trans posters here but I get the feeling the demographic is still pretty much the same.

@IusedToSkateMore, that video was excellent and I subscribed to the channel.  Those kids have ridiculous skills and it must be a testament to their teacher.

I am often amazed by these DIY parks….when I hear DIY skate park I think of a ditch with a parking block dragged over from a nearby lot.  Seeing that video makes me want to dedicate some time to my lacking street skills!  Of course, with a mini in the yard it can be tough to change things up.  Still, I am way motivated by that video and I’ll let you know when I skate that park.

RE: people’s insecurities….my 16 year old daughter is dealing with some of that in school.  Over dinner I mentioned that I know she can handle herself but she better go to the vice-principal if things escalate, although a small part of me does want her to throw down and set some school yard rules.  But I know that’s not the answer, we’ll see how it goes.
