I like him, but the fanboyism surrounding him can get a little irrational at times. I'm especially a fan of his 70s stuff with Ian Underwood. Fifty Fifty's my favorite Zappa tune, I think.

I wasn't ever really ever able to get into it. All my friends love him though.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

An old friend of mine first introduced me into Zappa's music around 2008 or so, and I haven't stopped digging through his music ever since. Zappa has gone through so many phases and put out so much music that I feel like despite his passing I'll never stop discovering gems in his repertoire. Gonna bump this old and forgotten thread just to share a couple of my favorite tracks.

When I was in high school, my best friend that I grew up with got super into Frank Zappa. He was totally obsessed. I never really understood it, but it made him happy and got him into music so much so that he ended up getting to study at Berklee.

Around that time, he got really into conspiracy theories, and eventually came to believe in some reptilian shapeshifter stuff ala David Icke. I was a huge stoner at the time and got very sucked into it,  believing much of it to the point where I was constantly paranoid. Eventually I got of drugs, realized it was fake, and distanced myself from him. We lost contact after he joined a Christian mystical cult.

Many years later, my mother texted me to tell me that this friend had been arrested for trafficking child pornography. I wish I could say that I was shocked, but ingrained in his conspiracy theories was a belief that he was being watched and that the government should not have any laws regarding sexual taboos.

So anyway, the only thing I can think of when hear Frank Zappa mentioned is that dude.

Just found out about this "Token of His Extreme" series Zappa put out of live performances with some animations. It's dope. Love when George Duke is on the track always too.

George Duke and Ruth Underwood are two of the most underrated musicians of all-time.
