How much $ does Nyjah and co. get for medaling in this?

From contest alone, this kid has been racking in some serious dough.

That park was 100% more interesting and unpredictable to watch than any Street League thus far.  My mind was blown on numerous occasions.  Was Decenzo the only one to step it up to the bump to rail on the wall?  He had that tailslide every try.

Watched the webcast.  Did not see one single trick from Luan or Chaz.  Not that I missed Chaz, but Luan got second and they showed me nothing.  David Gravette commentary was funny at times though.

I watched the webcast for a bit as well but had to turn it off because the coverage was utter bollocks. Was hoping to see some Luan, too.

luan should have won -- nyjah's runs didnt flow at all - throwing a kickflip backtail bigspin in the middle of your run is crazy for sure - but was far more stoked on luan

How did these skateboard street "hometown heroes" get invited to compete?

They most likely won one of the Hometown Heroes contests.

Is Westgate gonna compete in X-games this year? It would be sick to see him skate this park. It looks pretty rad.

at this point nyjah needs to just put out a long web clip with some raw street skating - obviously he has fans, obviously he is really good - but i really get jaded on skaters who appear to only skate contests, and spend all their time training to win contests. if thats the type of shit that gets you psyched then so be it - im not gonna tell you that you arent a skater or arents stoked about skating - but to me its just boring and seems to take the spirit out of what skating to me is all about.

that being said, ive always watched the x-games. i was psyched on the very first x-games.. fuckin biker sherlock man haha..  but i have been psyched on it because its my favorite pros on tv skating, which back in the mid/late 90s was really weird to see - its still cool to see i think. but usually your favorite pro is just out there dorking around having fun with it -- chris cole seems to do that and still wins all the time. anyway - nyjah is having fun right now with it because he is winning. remember that like 2 year period where he cried whenever he came in second in everything? just lame is all it is. im glad he finally figured it out though. good for him

I think every time they pick up their boards it should have counted as a bail. I prefer risky lines to repetition, regardless of skill.

did he tell you that? anyway that wasnt the point of my post really but he has definitely appeared to be on the verge of tears more than once after being "cheated" out of a win.

but he doesnt have to worry about that now, because he cant lose  :-\

For the record, he only cried once. It wasn't because he got second place, it's because he was cheated out of first.

lol that's no excuse for crying.

stop cheering for yourself. k

self cheering at the x games is a separate event unto itself. ever see one of those motocross events? fuck, man.

i dunno - for some reason it seems acceptable with motocross.. i would probably be cheering for myself too if i did a bunch of backflips on a motorcycle without seriously injuring myself haha

I'd be happy if I landed a kickflip back tail bigspin on a rail like that too but the self cheering is just too stupid

the only form of self cheering that's legit(not that it really is, it just shows he's happy with that trick) is Keenan Milton after that switch flip in Yeah Right

hands in the air plus screaming you might aswell be playing football....

cheering for yourself cause you did something that was dangerous and you have an overload of adrenalin is one thing. To cheer for yourself cause your there to win is entirely different and lame. Some of the vert guys do it and they always make me laugh at them when they do. everytime bob burnquist would mega jump he would celebrate like he just landed on the moon. jesus guys, get over yourselves.

a small part of me feels like a tv producer told these few self cheer'ers that it makes them more likable and recognizable to mainstream media. the whole thing just feels fake and forced, but maybe cause I feel so strongly that it has no place in skateboarding.?
