Finally got round to reading Y the last man in the last couple of weeks

Not sure why I had slept on that, I somehow had convinced myself it was a western?

Anyway, it was real good, and worth a read

just reread kevin smith's run on the green arrow

the dialogue is especially good for a super hero comic and it introduces on of my favorite villains, onomatopoeia.

Speaking of Garth Ennis, found the first book of Preacher at half price books. Hooked, and need to find the rest now.

Finally decided to read the comics of my favourite film. Interesting to see where the two converge and where they are completely different.

'No Mouth, you have a negative rep because you are a fan of growing your wealth off of the backs of low paid workers and brag about having bodyguards. You literally kook people for doing charity in South East Asia. Don't deny it.'

Not enough issues of Saga for it to be in graphic novel form, but who cares. Only 4 issues deep so its still very easy to catch up on.

This was really good, I finished it in a couple of hours. It's really great if you like old kung fu films too.

Does anyone by chance know where to find The Forever War online?

or the german version of Charles Burn's "The Hive" (Die Kolonie), that due to an art show by Burns in Germany got published 4 months prior to the english original?

Also bought Ile Bourbon 1730 the other day. Gives a pretty insightful view of the last years of pirates in the indian ocean.

Also if you haven’t started, I recommend Hickman’s current run of X-men. Start with House of X/Powers of X then read the comics. Basically the mutants have gone full blown black nationalist and said “fuck it we’ll live amongst ourselves”. The author is referencing a lot of deep X-men lore, it’s a truly dope read.

Just finished When the Wind Blows by Raymond Briggs again.
Probably my favorite graphic novel of all time.

My dad once described it as "your grandparents dealing with a nuclear war".
It's as beautiful as it is terrifying as it is sad.

Grew up reading Marvel, Wolverine Enemy of the State is great, I'd recommend that one,  anything Mark Millar writes is usually good.
I don't read too much of that any more though, I'm re-reading all the McFarlane era Hulk stuff. I like Ann Nocenti and John Romita Jr's run on Daredevil in the 80's, bit more to it all than just the superhero stuff, addresses more real world issues.

Lone Wolf and Cub is great, you feel like you're learning something while reading it. All the Junji Ito Uzumaki and Tomie Stuff is great and beautifully drawn. Taiyo Matsumoto is great too, I don't get too down that whole Manga rabbit hole, but I know what I like, Tekkonkincrete is a great read.
Been into Southern Bastards lately. I like Alexis Zirits art too, so Space Riders and Tarantula are pretty fun.

Yes all the Charles Burnes stuff rules, Mignola and Hellboy is great stuff. So much good stuff out there.
All time favorite is 1968 era Silver Surfer though I think. John Buscema drawing him is amazing.

Big fan of small press comics..

Anyone know if a board company has ever done any work with any major underground comic artists?
I'd love to see a deck with graphics by Seth, Clowes, Tomine or even Crumb.

Always struck me that there are certain parallels between comic art and board graphics: both dismissed as being for kids/disposable. I think if you pitched it from that angle some of the publishers/artists might actually be interested in collaborating and licensing their art for some boards...

Clowes did a Santa Cruz Corey O Brien in the 90's.
Crumb would be a good one.
Terror of Planet X, an East Coast Brand does work with Alexis Zirit and others.

I'm surprised a legitimate board company hasn't tried to get Charles Burns to do all their graphics. He's got one of the most beautiful and unique visual styles ever. Even the top Fantagraphics/indy comix artists make so little from their books that they rely heavily on illustration or other gigs to pay the rent.
