DLX 8.38 shape question
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:49:34 PM »
i just bought a 8.38 ramondetta and expected it to be 32.56 like that shape is, but i measured it cus it seemed short and from tip of the nose to tip of the tail its a hair over 32. it is 8.4 wide but i dont know why its so short. also how do most naufacturers measure decks, i always thought it was topside nose to tail, but i have seen some measure the bottom side nose to tail.

anyone who has this shape jus let me know what it measures.

They have 2 8.38 shapes, one is slightly over 32 and boxy in shape and the other is a little squarer and longer.
I know it now by sight after riding so many but it's best to borrow a measuring tape to make sure it's what you want.
I measure boards tip to tip and hold the tape to the board to get and accurate surface area measurement.

Some companies measure bottom tail to nose  (the wrong way ) and some measure griptape side tail to nose (the right way). Tum Yeto is bad about listing boards at like 8X 31.75 when they are really barely over 31" .

End to end measurement: 8 13/32 x 32 1/8
Bending the tape to the radius of the concave/kick (griptape side): 8 7/16 x 32 17/32

It's common for companies to measure length the queer way. The only explanations I can fathom is so that you'll know exactly how much griptape to cut or to offer a standardized measurement that mitigates the affect of kick angle.

i guess i have the 32 one, but the shape is pretty surfboardish. theres hardly any square to the nose or tail.

aside from the measurement talk, the 8.38x32.56 is the best shape i've ever ridden.

Just got a real 8.0 and the tail is round and short whereas the nose is a lot steeper and fuller/wider. does real/dlx have only that one shape for the 8.0 or could I get another real board and expect a different shape?
Carter, it is fucking friday, the fucking tenth

the wheelbase or length whatever is too much for me on one of this boards, when I try to flip they feel longer than the usual 8.25 I ride and I can't seem to get my flick going, love the feel though (8.38 wide) but I can't take how long the board is.

I'm gonna get one of those 8.25 Torres boards.

I also like this shape a lot. Another strange thing I have found is that when you put DLX 8.38 and 8.5s together, often the 8.38 is actually the same width or bigger than the 8.5 haha.
