Shotcaller.

absolutely--i just watched it again yesterday and was going to mention it in this thread. there's some ham-handed and corny shit with how gangs are represented (which is probably inevitable whenever Hollywood tries to deal with that subject matter), but how that movie treats family and fatherhood is just fucking jarring...

...that scene at the hotel when "Money" tells his son to forget him, slams the door, and then the camera focuses in on him trying not to break down, had me tearing up...

Yes^^^ great film

Haven't seen it for a few years, but saw There Will Be Blood was streaming and damn, what an incredible performance Daniel Day Lewis did in that film. Such a great movie.

Top 5 for me... the score alone is incredible. I’ll admit for years, up until recently, i always thought Paul and Eli were the same person maybe he had multiple personalities (it sounds dumb in hindsight). Paul Dano was supposed to just play Paul, but the actor playing Eli dropped out saying Daniel Day was too intense or something.. so Dano played both and they wrote in they were identical twins.

Paul Dano nailed it in that...all i can say is: comeuppance

This is the type of Netflix content I’m here for.  King Of Kong meets Evil Genius type docuseries that’s too good to be scripted but too crazy to be real.

1 episode in, this shit is bonkers

The shit got crazy when they talked about the missing husband...and shit kept getting weirder and highly entertaining ...the part when that kids sees Travis on the security cam....damn I had to watch that part a few times, like what the fuck! Wow

I'm trying to enjoy Tiger King but I can't get into it. I'm on episode 3 or 4 and I'm barely paying attention to it. Which is tripping me out because everyone is enjoying it.

Don't feel bad. I couldn't get into it either. Watched the first episode yesterday and couldn't bring myself to continue to watch it.

It's pretty wild but then at the end nothing really felt like it came together, closure wise. Like what point exactly was the director trying to make? In the end I felt like I just watched a whirlwind of "big cat" people fucking each other over. Entertaining enough if you're into that sort of thing - sort of like crazy reality tv.

On that note, started watching the Gringo John Mcafee documentary. Pretty interesting so far.

Freaks was really good. Starts slow but eventually gets hectic. Definitely a good sci-fi flick.

Pandemic is a really good series - think I mentioned that one on this thread already.

Watched Contagion the other day, doesn't look like it's on netflix anymore though. It's not too outlandish and actually feels pretty informative. Really good suspense movie about a pandemic.

Vice Principals - on hulu -  is good but typical Danny Mcbride playing Danny Mcbride. Definitely didn't see what was coming in the final episode.

Not sure if all of these are on Netflix but thinking of watching Pandorum, Platform, Guns Akimbo, Takashi Miike's first love, Knives out, Swiss army man, Booksmart, standoff on sparrow creek.

Nah it took me a minute to get into this too,  I kept falling asleep on the first episode and some of the other ones too, they could have removed a ton of dialogue

It’s does come together in the end and I was more interested in doc antle than joe exotic

New season of Ozark is amazing so far
There was an interview with TK, when he was a plumber. He got asked if he gets recognized on the job and his response was "No. Plumbin in disguise." Everyone on SLAP thought he said "put him in the sky"

going to agree with the Ozark praise--i'm on episode 3, and this season is firing on all 8 cylinders.

Ruth is one of my favorite characters of all time, and i like her more with every episode, which doesn't happen often...as far as female characters go, i'm not going to say she's as much of a badass as Frances McDormand in Fargo, but the potential is there.

also, sat through all of the episodes of Tiger King--a couple of random thoughts:
  • walked away with a heightened sense of despair for our species, which passed quickly because fuck all of those people anyway, other than maybe the poor and transient workers at those "zoos."
  • it's insane that ALL of that didn't happen in Florida
  • the sad, half-hearted attempt to make it all about the animals at one point, and how all of the money wasted throughout these tales of white trash debasement should be spent on the animals in their natural habitat, was even more absurd and hollow because for some reason it's the libertarian campaign manager kid saying it
  • a moral of the story--white trash/redneck assholes do fucked-up, crazy, destructive shit when they have access to large sums of money--and i'm definitely including that crazy hag down in Florida...

Don't know if anyone has said Babylon Berlin yet... It's damn good, but then again I'm something of a Germanophile.
If you watch it, make sure to turn on the subtitles. The dubbed version (like someone said above about something else) is intolerable.

Watched the second season of Ugly Delicious, pretty good but not as good as the first.
Only 4 episodes is some bullshit though, 2 years between seasons and that’s all Netflix can manage?

Iliza Shlesinger's new sketch show is fucking great.

Watched the first episode and wrote it off after the nectarine sketch. A couple were funny but the female jackass was pretty cringeworthy, definitely got secondhand embarrassment watching some of them.

‘The Death of Stalin’ was both hilarious and somewhat historically accurate. Buscemi and Tambor were excellent.

I went into a 2 hour Wikipedia dive after watching and got way too deep into researching Marxism.
