You guys forgot Choke and the one that I think was his best…

He made a clansmen loveable.

Why are we in Movies/TV on Netflix dropping Sam Rockwell movies though?

Because we have two poorly titled Movies/TV threads that just become catch-alls to discuss things you watch in theaters and things you watched at home - but really not even that clearly defined.

And we were talking about the film Moon. I actually haven’t seen Best Of Enemies and I’ll have to check that out.
I’m currently watching the Charles Laughton film Night Of The Hunter. I can’t believe I’d never seen it before. It’s incredible so far.

Just out of curiousity, is it pretty commonly known Moon was directed by David Bowie’s son?

(and there was a very light “same universe but not a sequel” movie on Netflix)

Yes!   Only have seen the first ep, but I love it when then show hits lightly on an homage to the movie, but does its own thing.

Really enjoyed The Killer. I love Michael Fassbender and Fincher made excellent use of him in this one.
[close]

My enjoyment grows with the thought of it

It felt almost intentionally like a tv show.   I don’t remember opening production cards, just went straight into the intro montage like a tv show and the obvious episodic nature of the narrative.
[close]

I liked how it was shot and the acting a lot, but the story was a bit cliche for me found myself correctly guessing the 2nd and 3rd acts all from events in the 1st act
[close]

A “well-structured” script will do that.   The idea is to establish things subtly in your mind so that things don’t seem coincidental, but also not with a bell around its neck.   I think as you become a better movie watcher you just happen to notice these things more and more - but I do agree it wasn’t the most original thing in the world

I got around to this tonight. It was engrossing enough but it felt slight. I enjoyed the performances but it felt like the least Fincheresque Fincher movie.

I guess it was sort of an homage to Le Samourai but I also wasn’t really sure if it was going for satire? Like, he’s alternately a consummate professional and also does some idiotic stuff? Or it’s a psychopathic Michael Clayton? (Hey Tilda!)

^^^ I saw the commercial for this last night. It looks cool. I didn't used to love Clive Owen but he has grown on me starting with "Children of Men".

I never saw "The Knick". Was that good?
[close]

I loved the Knick.   Two perfect seasons

The only thing about this show I’m nervous about is I’m not always on board with Brit Marling/Zal Batmangli’s creative choices.   The OA was not my favorite and I couldn’t do s2 despite hearing good things…
[close]

Completely agree about the Knick and not being able to get into the OA. I've enjoyed For All Mankind on Apple tv so far, progression from season to season is significant enough that at the end of each season I'm looking forward to where it goes from there.
[close]

I haven’t been in love with FAM bc I’m not crazy about Joel Kinnaman, but I’ve stuck with it.    There are some intriguing sparks setting up in this season and I dig Toby Kebbell so it’s nice to see him in the mix

Has anyone watched the Curse yet?  Don’t want to speak too much on it yet

I've watched the first 3 episodes and am enjoying it a lot so far. Some good cringe-dark comedy Nathan Fielder type stuff but in a more dramatic sense.

Fargo is good too. New episode out today I think

Fargo is Thursdays I think.

I like-ish The Curse.   I’m kinda ready for the 2nd act to begin.   I’m starting to wonder where the story is going in a not good way.   Emma Stone is amazing though

You in the US?   Murder at the End of the world drops on FX Tues here.  But it doesn’t really matter

Slow Horses on AppleTV started up again which I’m pleased.

Id guess it would come out on Tuesday nights in America because it airs on Wednesday nights ins Aus and is available earlier online (guessing they put it up same time as it airs in US).
I've been enjoying it so far. Feels like it's been months since I've really been liking a show. New ep I found really interesting was kinda pissed when the credits came up

Looking forward to Fargo despite the few middling reviews I read. I didn’t hate the last season but it was my least favorite for sure.

Loving Blue Eyed Samurai.

For anyone wary like I initially was, it is not anime

I just finished The Fall Of The House Of Usher. Some of the performances were pretty incredible and some of the actors mere showed up or were perhaps miscast but the overall production was mesmerizing.
The series is a lot like the Nightmare On Elm Street movies where there’s a certain dark humor to all the creative death scenes and for me it was definitely Prospero’s.
One weird thing though- maybe I’m wrong but it looked to me like two of the cast members ( Mary McDonnell and Henry Thomas ) seem to have a significantly reduced ability to enunciate properly due to lost mobility from facelifts. It was uncomfortable to watch especially since McDonnell is so talented.

It feels like 8 episodes of a first act.   There’s so much set up without pay off yet that it’s putting on a lot of weight on that eventual end and I’m kinda reserving my judgement til I get there (atm I feel a bit listless and feel like Safdies character is just changing sides every week)…

I want it to be successful though!

Not on netflix, but still a great watch: Samurai Jack on Max. One of my favorite cartoons from my childhood that still holds its weight in regards to action, story, animation, etc. I love how the series has always touched on subjects regarding the ego, anger management, and loss, but the later seasons have really dug deep into those subjects in a more profound way.
This scene in particular has stuck with me lately:

I plowed through "The Brothers Sun" last night. Super fun show.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Yeah, I'm not sure if i "got it" but it was stressful, entertaining, and very bizarre.

Reminded me of some Twin Peaks type shit...
