The last episode of The Curse just banged me all over the head as I hoped it would.

Yeah, I'm not sure if i "got it" but it was stressful, entertaining, and very bizarre.

Reminded me of some Twin Peaks type shit...

I love that they kept it kind of strange but throughout and then just pulled out all the stops, wish more series had the balls to do that.

God help me I enjoyed parts of Ted.   There’s enough American Dad weirdness mixed in to outweigh the Seth MacFarlandness of the first eps

If the dad didn’t voice Steve in AD I would think they found Bill Burrs non union Mexican equivalent

Season 5 of Fargo is good. Not perfect but as good as a show can be these days id say. Won't spoil anything but I think it's always pretty hard for shows last episodes but Fargo remained pretty consistent the whole way thru.

Also watched the first ep of the new true detective and I won't judge too much too soon but it was no Fargo.

I've been watching Loudermilk with Ron Livingston (from Office Space) and my wife and I enjoy it.

Its super unbelievable that a 4' 8" 60 year old sheriff is just gonna run shit on all the people she encounters...im wondering if its gonna just be some big corporate pollution criminal but its an interesting start.

as a dude who can access porn on the internet im kinda tired of sex scenes in shows. yall ain't showing no under carriage in your love scenes? kinda a why-bother at this point.

Yes…though it did make me want to check in on the book which has a wider scope.  Kinda wished this was a series or something.

Fargo stuck the landing.   That clink of pop bottles made me laugh more than it probably should.

Just caught the Fargo finale tonight. I loved the whole dinner prep and meal conversation scenes. There was a lot of satisfying payoff. Jennifer Jason Leigh's Lyon Matriach character's voice was pretty annoying initially but I came around to her part way through the season. Boy I am having a hard time formulating my thoughts tonight. Clusterfuck spam. Anyway I liked it. Maybe I'll check out True Detective even though it sounds pretty from the description above.

^basically how I felt. There was a moment early on where I was a bit like oh shit there's still 40 mins left I hope they don't fuck this but it all worked good. (Spoilers) Was hoping for a bit of a better ending for the two cops but it's still all fine.

As far as true detective what I just told my old man was maybe just wait a couple weeks. (Mild spoilers) I haven't watched any of the videos but I noticed a bunch of YouTube videos with titles like woke blah blah blah and I didn't really get too much of that. The little things for me is I just really felt the whole time like it was shit I've already seen in like ten other recent shows. But if somebody hadn't seen those shows they wouldn't feel that way.
And it was kinda flat but maybe every show doesn't have to start with a banger.

And lastly which is a boomer take for me but it's weirdly crazy crispy hd which makes it feel like a daytime soap but that's just a dumb personal thing for me.

You don’t think Indira got a good ending?   Maybe more karmic retribution to rain down on her ex, but she landed on her feet.

Surprised people have reacted so strongly to True Detective after one episode.   I’m certainly interested to see what caused the people to presumably commit suicide like the elk in the intro (though I’m sure that’s a red herring).  Maybe it’s bc I found The Curse so deeply unsatisfying on a week to week basis that im comforted by a show that will at least develop at a normal pace

I guess I just picture working for the Lyons to be hell. Like great you're safe but now you're a piece of shit.

I think we're just living in times where there's way too many people trying to be some kind of twitter/YouTube whatever celeb and have to be as fast as possible to shit on anything that can be considered woke for their "fanbase"

There's a pretty ok show called the head which starts out basically the same (group of scientists in snow land mysteriously all die) which is prob worth people checking out if they like that premise but don't want to wait ten weeks. It will almost definately be completely different tho. There's a show called fortitude too which tiny bit the same but hopefully very different.

Hah I don’t disagree about the Lyons, but I saw Indira as the catalyst for her being more human towards Dot as a perhaps a positive note towards future job conditions.

Liked Fortitude, never gave the Head a chance.   Am wary about European shows.   Just tried Berlin after so many people apparently loved Money Heist/Casa De Papel and found it to be one of the worst written shows.  30 coins had a great/preposterous first season, but let down a little by the second despite the addition of Giamatti.   Maybe it’s just Spanish shows I should be wary of

Agree that Fargo ended beautifully. I watched the final scene, then watched again with my wife. The way they listen to the cursed medieval sineater with complete acceptance made me shed a little tear.

I love that they gave him a Peter Stormare killing Buscemi reference earlier in the series.   That actor has mostly played a lot of small roles that rely on his striking looks.  Hopefully he gets more work after this

I thought it was great, the prison scene was good too.  The dinner table scene was done really well, I smiled at the end too.

I’m watching Pen15 on Hulu for the first time right now. Their observations of home life whether it’s the dynamic of a family going through separation or friends sleeping over at each other’s homes are so spot on. As well as what it was like communicating with technologies of the 90’s-early 2000’s. I’m not a cinema buff but I find the cinematography to be beautiful. (for anyone unfamiliar, this is a show about the live’s of two middle school girls played by the show’s two creators who were in their mid-30’s)

it’s a very sweet show. I’ve found myself welling up at times.

Yeah it’s a genius show, plus it’s nice to Al Borlan again.   Maya Erskine is starting to get big off that show.   She’s starring opposite Donald Glover in his Mr and Mrs Smith show and she’s the voice of the maybe underrated Blue Eyed Samurai

Finished The Patriot on Amazon and I thought it was great. The characters were all interesting and eccentric. Settings and visual elements were pleasing to the eye. And the music was excellent with original pieces injected to summarize the thoughts and feelings of the hero. The plot moves slower at times than what I would have liked but I think that is typical for a streaming series. I am sad to see these people go…

Look for that creators (Steve Conrad) other shows.  I think the pieces fit together a little bit better on Perpetual Grace, LTD.   He also had a weird little team America marionette style show called Ultra City Smiths

Speaking of underrated shows, Patriot was definitely underrated.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Episode 2 of TD seemed like it got everything back on track.   Is that spiral pattern the same as in s1?

The only non-TD happening in this season is the lack of two timelines.   They’re talking about that older case, but it isn’t handled like other seasons.   Don’t know if I necessarily care beyond breaking with a show’s established conventions annoys me slightly

^its a show I've always watched when it came out but don't think I've ever watched an episode twice. Did it always have two timelines going right from the start? It's only the start still they could do a time jump still. I guess they've also done enough seasons now that it could also be good to just do something different.

Had a little laugh at the start like is the show actually trolling with all the cops being that goofy. Like they know what dipshits are going to be saying so let's really annoy them

From what I recall it’s always been two timelines about the same case.   S2 I don’t necessarily recall that strongly, but def in the first and the 3rd.   The connection to the native woman murder and the guy who got the tattoo is this season’s version (and whatever beef the two leads had investigating it).   Maybe rather than splitting eps in half they’ll devote a few eps

Severance, Black Bird, Telemarketers, Life of Crime 1984-2020, Class Action Park

The last 3 are documentaries in and around my home state. While I don’t think you have to be from NJ to enjoy these docs, I think it helps.

New shows just dropped (haven’t seen yet):

Sexy Beast - Paramount+ : prequel series before Spain.

In the Know - Peacock : new Mike Judge show about an NPR show

Masters of the Air - Apple+ : kinda considered part 3 of Band of Brothers, The Pacific.  Cary Jo Fukunaga heavily involved

Get On Your Knees - Netflix : heard amazing things about this stand up/one woman show from people who saw it live

Criminal Record - Apple + :   Good ol fashioned British police drama

Yellowstone entertained me to an extent but wouldn't actually recommend it. However, 1883 is awesome so far after a few episodes in. It's literally like Red Dead Redemption Era settlers trying to cross the country and right now at the beginning they're in Rhodes

Having seen these:

In the Know is legit one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a bit.   Some good Space Ghost Coast to Coast vibes in it

Sexy Beast seems interesting enough.    The Gal casting is pretty solid and I think Don Logan works well enough though it’s kind of a character you don’t necessarily want to know more about to preserve his menace.    Vampire Bill from True Blood is Teddy Bass and it works on a different creepy level
