Plowed through Tokyo Vice last week. I'm on the hype train! Hoping enough latecomers skew the numbers up and they decide to renew and so some promo for season 3. Probably never would have gotten to it if it wasn't for this thread.
Which season did you like better?
I've thought about it for a minute and I can't honestly say I noticed a huge difference between the two seasons, maybe because I binged it. Season 2 has a couple of diversionary storylines that wind up being critical eg. The Motorbike Gang or the return trip to Missouri that at first felt like they were going for a one and done story but of course we know how those wound up. I particularly like how Maruyama's relationship with her brother echoes Jake's relationship with his sister. On one hand, we want him to go do the right thing. On the other hand, we see how that has worked out for Maruyama. I think we only got those side stories because they expanded the episode count from 8-10. I dunno...I was into it all!
I thought the pacing was excellent over the entire show, the whole thing felt like a building dynamic and complete story. Early on, character development and setting were the focus, once the stakes were clear for all the main characters, the action felt necessary. I can't see this having a third season, felt pretty complete, no?
Does anyone know hiw closely the show follows the memoir?
Sato was my fav character, acting was great.
