All in all, this is a throwaway year for OIAM, and we need Whiteley back making sure shit's done properly.

And.... last year everyone was talking shit on Whitely and his supposed efforts to turn OIAM into a reality show. Wonder if this structuring has something to do with why he left SLAP.

Expand Quote
who would have thought that the one year they structure the whole thing completely differently it would be this flaming pile of dog shit, i feel bad for the kids though, theyre not the ones who created some corny ass shit
[close]

What are the odds that the year they changed up everything they just happened to find the 10 whiniest, entitled skaters out there?

I think it was definitely a bogus "show" and fuck, there was some serious negativity in that warehouse, but damn, maybe some of those kids are entitled. Who knows?

AND,

notice that there was no clip of Cards complaining about the kids? Cardiel is truth, man.

I just read all those ESPN quotes from all the dudes involved, and lemme say that if Alex Klein's solution to not making enough money on the last OIAM was to make Survivor:Brooklyn Banks was completely regular. If you were losing money on it/paying judges like Rodriguez when he knows skateboarding is all about marketing, couldn't you have gotten that dude to do it for free? Maybe put OIAM on DVD with 5Boro boards? Find as many sponsors as you can to put in guest skaters and help get money? Maybe even throw in a contest in one of those NY skate plazas at the end with all the contestants before you eliminate down to the final 3? Maybe Business school has gotten to me, but for real ur best solution is this bullshit that is fucked. Leave skateboarding for skateboarders, and reality show competitions for everyone else.

I will never buy a 5 boro board.  Ya sponsored skating has allot to do with your personality as well as your skating, but on tour or whatever you don't have some fucking clown in your grill all the time when your trying to have a conversation with your buddy.  Way too much bullshit this year.  Change the style of the show and how it was filmed back to last year and it would be awesome.  Cut the soap opera shit and just let the kids skate at spots.  One or two filmers minus all that production shit and your good to go.  Lets get some relevant pro skaters judging the guys on their style tricks and have them hang with the kids while their skating to critique their "personality."  I'm not talking guest appearences either I mean three pros judging all week.

the show most likely won't ever be back to its original greatness. whiteley and brook are gone. if klein leaves, then it's probably going to be up to another dude heading in the same direction as klein ($$$)

Alex Klein should admit his fail and move on. Trying to blame the kids for not being psyched enough because the show was fucked up and lame as hell is ridiculous. Pisses me off that they're trying to show case the kids in a negative light because the show was horrible and fucked up from the get go.

"Oh well the kids shouldn't complain about having to eat donkey testicles, because the plane ride was free", thats a bullshit argument right there. lolfail on trying to think a youtube show is going to pull MTV, if that's the reason for doing the show, than you're in it for the wrong reasons, PLAIN and fucking simple.

The best episode was the skating, not the high ollie challenge/pizza delivery. I also like how the producers pull Jamie Thomas into the last episode even though he wasn't in the show at all until then to try and give them some credibility. Yeah I'm sure having to do demos at a lame park sucks, but that's still better than a high ollie contest with lame forced antics like board breaking in your face. After seeing how Jamie Thomas acted at the Washington DC Zero demo in 2010, I'm not surprised he feels this way. Talk about a dude out of touch with reality, and I grew up a MASSIVE Thomas fan.

that literally made me feel sick watching that.  it felt like being called into the Principals office for a long lecture (i know because i've had those)...

i can't believe the shit coming out of those guys mouths.  i would expect that from the producer of the show but give me a break..  they blew it.  totally had the opportunity to save face and admit that the show was ridiculous, but they chose to back the show and the producers for a measly paycheck .   if any one of those guys had just said "yeah, this show didn't work this year.. it was a bad choice of format, i feel for these kids" they could have retained some respect.

there's no way any of those old fucks would ever have done something like this in their 20's.

so awful.

i'm sure they wouldn't have minded having cameras in their face all the time if they were having fun and skateboarding..  everything in those little interviews is so out of context

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

i too will never buy a 5 boro board.  chalk up another lost customer

I can't believe nobody has said this yet- but god bless these kids for giving this bullshit the axe when nobody else would. They had the most to lose by doing that too. They should be given a standing ovation for their rebellion. The whole "judges panel" were too into being reality show whores, the producer apparently thought he was kicking ass, and SLAP was scared to break the contract, so these kids stepped up, gave up whatever potential prize was awaiting them, and finally sent the message- SKATEBOARDING IS TOO GOOD FOR THIS BULLSHIT.
I would find it hard to believe the kids in this don't check this site, as they obviously found out about the contest somehow, and they are at the center of the shit storm. If you are out there- FUCK YEAH, you guys are all fucking awesome.

Saddest thing about this whole thing is that they were probably editing this thing the whole time to make the show look as good as possible and the kids look as bad as possible, and after watching the whole thing capped with them piling on these poor kids, everybody came to the conclusion that the producers were fucking assholes. The way they edited it was barely even noticeable that the kids were the ones telling the producers to fuck off, and that they just had bad attitudes and so the judges decided they weren't worthy. Imagine if they just edited it straight? oooof.

For those piling on to Fitzgerald, it was really obvious he was set up. For those asking why he would do the interview, how can you say no to the institution that put you on the map? He doesn't comment on the challenges, meaning he either didn't know or wasn't down, but only on the cameras. And honestly, maybe there were as many cameras in people's faces in the SF season episodes, but I really doubt that it was JUST the cameras that were pissing them off, but after all the bullshit, I'm sure that shit would get to you. It would be like putting a dog in a cage, abusing and teasing the shit out of it, and throwing anything into the cage, that thing is getting ripped the fuck apart.
As far as the "crew falling apart :'( :'( :'( :'( " goes, it seemed like glasses kid and Finucan were bonding, but bonding on how much they fucking hated the show.

I can't totally hate Steve Rodriguez, apparently he was behind keeping the brooklyn banks open long enough for me to get a chance to skate there, which, at least on a personal level, cancels out the bullshit I had to put up with here. I'd gladly sit through all of these again for a chance to skate the banks again. I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thought he looked really weird though. It kinda reminded me of what would happen if you put a wax statue of a person under the sun and let it melt and droop, and I can't even explain why.

Oh, and the idea of being pro only being 40% skating is the most honest thing anybody said on that shit. So much of it is knowing the right people, kissing the right ass, and having the right image. There are plenty of pros that are terrible or haven't produced parts in years, but are down with the right people.

Can't wait to see Mandible's edit. I'm definitely in on the million view march.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

there were a full 2 days of street skating they left out, and i can only assume it's because leaving out the rest of the amazing skating makes it looks like they "deserved" to win less.

Lurker Lou is obviously a gigantic pole polishing bitch boy. Does your beard come with a trident? faggot face.

I didn't give a shit about the opinion of JT, when you make that much money you are no longer on the every-man's level of thinking/relating to skateboarders, so basically his point was pointless and who gives a shit, he's no Ed Templeton.

Did Steve Rod-boro have a stroke? cause half his face looks like it's refusing to move with the other half. Along with the shit that flew out of his regular mouth. Actin' like a fuckin' hotshot cool guy, you just fagged it dude.

I'll say what's already been said, this shit sucked and fuck the whole thing. Just let it die already. Start another contest or whatever in a different format.

Money just makes you a cunt, look at most of the dinks involved.

Before everyone comes down on Alex Klein for being part of this, you have to admit: The filming, editing and production of this show is really top-notch, and although it was put together with a relatively small crew of people behind the camera, it still looks and feels like a high-value production.

Also remember that a "reality show" is first of all a SHOW, and the skaters signed up to play a game. Now, all reality shows are pretty much whack, and no wonder a skateboarding game show comes out whack as well...

Alex is a talented skater and top-notch filmmaker and obviously not afraid to experiment. This experiment failed, but it's only failure if no one learns from it.
