Wheels for your cruisers?
« on: January 31, 2012, 08:30:06 AM »
I've had a zip zinger set up for the past two years now and I've been riding some random wheels probably made by a longboarding company.  They're alright, but sometimes I would rather give up some of the softness in the wheels for the ability to ollie better.  I'm thinking about getting krooked wheels that (I think) come with zip zinger / zagger completes, but wondering if I should get something else instead?

DON'T DON'T DON'T buy Zip Zinger wheels. I've had 3 sets and they all shit the bed. First ones chipped up and the 2nd 2 separated from their cores. Get Ricta Clouds or Bones ATFs.. you won't look back. Either of those are infinitely better wheels. They're just as soft, but more suited to tricks due to their shape, ride better overall, and won't fall apart/chip up like the Zip Zingers. I ride the 54mm Rictas a good 90% of the time, only swapping out to harder wheels when I'm looking to fuck with noseslides/tailslides to revert tricks.

My buddy gave me some 60mm, 78a Satori Skunks. They are great great cruiser wheels. The only thing that sucks is the picture of the skunk hitting a bong and the fact that as you ride them, they start to look like smoke as they collect road grime.

Bones ATF/softcores are great. I'm riding the OJ3 filmer wheels at the mo. Bit softer than the bones but better for skating the shitty UK roads.

unless you skating some super shitty terrain I'd go with bones DTF.  They're soft enough to take the buzz out of most rough stuff I've found

rollerskates from a thrift store are cheap, and include two sets of soft wheels.

There's been a lot of different suggestions, and I've been looking them all up, but all the white wheels seem to be the same.  Anyone try more than one of these?  I'm looking for a wheel that isn't huge but I'm still able to ride without the "ratteling" of the street wheels.

At the moment, I'm stuck between the Ricta clouds, the spitfire 80D's, and the bones atf.  Probably gonna head over to the closest shop and see what they got.

Turns out the nearest show (that isn't an Active Ride Shop) only carries krooked kutters and kryptonics (same ones i got now).  Gonna go check em out later today.

For all the talk people have about Rictas, spits etc, when it comes down to it buy Bones/Powell. Quality. Its as simple as that.

it seems that i am the only one that is really happy with his krooked zinger wheels. i have been riding them heavily on my cruiser for the last 2 years, and if they withstand standard austrian streets/sideways even in winter, they last everywhere.

Don't do it!  I have a pair of these right now.  Little chunks started coming off right away.  They don't last well at all.  On my other cruiser (which I've had for almost 2 years and skate A LOT) I have the Powell Bombers.

Seriously the best cruiser wheels I've ever had.  You can pretty much skate through gravel, they're still almost like new, and they slide enough to powerslide and actually do tailslides and shit.

got pink 54 krooked kutters, dyed them black.  so far so good, can't really tell much of a difference from my huge 59 kryptonics other than the fact that popping ollies are less of a chore now

I get bored on wheels that are too soft. low 90's is perfect. I like to be able to slide. Spitfire usually has some 90, 92, 95. or Bones has some good 95's.

I've had some satori 78 duros on a my zip zinger for about 3 years now and they still ride smooth over anything.
