The REAL Michael Jordan of Skateboarding
« on: March 07, 2012, 09:37:04 AM »
No question, no doubt.

Not Tony Hawk, not Mark Gonzales, not Natas. Certainly not Sal Barbier. But, Rodney Mullen...

And, if you want to know where skating will be in 20 years just watch his Questionable part from 20 years ago and think only bigger.

No question, no doubt.

Maybe if Jordan re-invented basketball and developed the techniques that all modern basketball players utilize (despite being a little less "stylish" than others), then you might have a valid comparison.

this. Jordan isnt your typical sports hero (arguably the greatest one of time) so its hard to make a truly accurate comparison. if anyone itd be tony hawk, just because he really helped bring skateboarding to a level of mainstream popularity that hadn't been reached before and really became the face of the sport at one point in time. its obviously a bit different now, but birdman sorta paved the way ya know?

Mullen deserves his props tho. He is the godfather of street skating. period.

Hawk did his thing and was an innovator, but not on the level that Mullen was.

Lots of people did what Tony was doing and even with more style and flow.

No one has done what Rodney has done.

So if you think of Jordan as the best of of the best of basketball.

Rodney is the one.

No argument.

you sound ignorant as fuck. theres alot more room for innovation in skateboarding (especially at that time), but a lot basketball has to do with "in the moment" type of things. jordan was more than just a really good player. dude did things that were completely unprecedented and played at an extremely high level night after night. not to mention he has multiple LEGENDARY sports moments. dude did the classic "hero character in the movie" shit all the time, IN REAL LIFE. they both stand as icons in their respective sports but you can't really compare the two individually as skateboarding & basketball are 2 completely different things. sports moments aside jordans accolades speak for himself. he was a bit more than "a damn good baller".
